HELP!!! Enging Making Grinding/Chuckling Sound!!!

Hey all,

My engine is currently making a grinding/chuckling sound and I really don't know where it's coming from. Could it be the tranny? Does that mean it's failing?

Every morning when I start the car and let it warm up to its operating temp, the car always never shifts right. When it does, it is a very hard jerk. When in D4 and going from first gear to second gear, the car doesn't move but the RPMs go up to about the 4K then it jerks and finally shifts.

Then after driving for a while there aren't any instances of this hard jerking problem. Does anyone know what's wrong?

I'm going to do a tranny flush this weekend to see if this helps any.

I'm starting to get worried!!!

Thanks in advance everyone,
James

Smells like a tranny to me. My advice to you would be to rob a bank.

How hard is replacing a tranny?

Can it be done yourself, maybe with an engine lift? I could get my hands on a tranny for about $500 - $1500 and if I installed it myself I'd be saving thousands, considering that Acura charges about $4500.

Is there a manual that actually has a break down of this? I'm thinking it might be just a bolt on just like every other component on the engine. No welding required? Just a take off and put right back on the same way I took it off right?

Sorry for all the questions. I'm beyond worried now. The thing is it has had this grinding sound before then it stopped for a week and came back after I touched the redline in 2nd when passing someone. So I'm just hoping it might go away after a while.

Thanks for the replies,
James
