Looking for advice on my air conditioning.

I got 97 Cl 2.2 The air conditioning is intermittent at best meaning that it either kicks in or not. It will either start when i start my car or not at all. I think it has something to do with the fan in the front of my engine cause when the a/c is not working the fan isnt turning. It is not a coolant thing cause i just got that filled and it is not a condenser thing cause they just cleaned it. I think it has something that actually switches on the a/c. Anybody know what i am talking about or that i can check out??? Any replies much appreciated. Thanks guys or gals.

 

my car was hit in the front once and it required a new air condenser... anyhow when the mechanic recharged my system he overcharged it and my a/c didn't work until the right amount was put in. when it wasn't working the fan would come on and then shut off quickly. a/c would come on and then turn off, it would work for the first 5 minutes or so before blowing warm air and making noises. works great now though, easy fix! is it possible it may be overcharged??

I am having the same problem with my A/C on my 3.0.
I have been back and forth to my mechanic recharging the damn thing like 6 times now. The a/c will go off and on every 20 seconds or so, and then within a day it will just keep blowing hot air. How doe's he tell when the right amount is in their with out over charging it?

 

Sounds like ur compressor is not kicking in. Trychecking all the connections and relays and even get a manual and follow the wires to the compressor to the ECU to see if its a problem with a loose connection or corrosion in the wire harness(s).

 

jholland, make sure he checks the system for leaks too... when i brought mine in, i explained that the a/c would blow cold for the first 5 minutes every day before getting warm and then the compressor would not stay on. the fan and compressor would turn on and off every 5 seconds or so while a/c was on. he hooked it up the the machine and it gave him a reading on some meter. he said toom much frion, he drained and re-filled with right amount and it works amazing now, no problems... he did say that the overabundance of frion that was originally in the system may have put some excess wear on my compressor, turning on and off so often, so don't run the a/c until it's working well. good luck getting it fixed.
