my dad needs someone to say that u can add a amp and sub to the stock bose system...i know you can and the car stereo places say you can but he went to bose.com and it says you cant. hurry!!
Dude, first of all, you have to understand your Dads worried your going to go spend you $$ on somethin and it wont work. Not to play favorites, but yes, you are right, you can add Subs and a Amp to ANY car. The bose speakers are amplified by themselves meaning 1 amp per speaker, so what the bose website is probably meaning is it will be hard to take 1 amp and hook all the bose speakers to it.
On the other hand, IF you ADD new speakers (say like a few Subwoffers?) You can hook the NEW amp directly up to the subs and YES, you can hook it up to the Bose headunit and everything. Tell you dad it WILL work. I had my profesionally installed for $50.
I have 2 Alpine Type S Subs and a Fosgate 500Watt Amp Powering the subs... (heres picts)

Just so you know, you can do about anything to the stereo. When i got my TV and DVD, i called Bestbuy for an install price and they told me it couldnt be done because the bose speakers are amplified by them selves and i would have to get all new speakers and an amp to power the speakers. (never trust bestbuy....i call a profesional audio store and they did the install....all i needed was a $40 FM Modulator....Bestbuy was trying to get me to buy all new speakers from them so they could make more money....

One more thing....if u have an Aftermarket Headunit...it will be easier to install the subs to because it probably will already have a hook up port for the sub wires to plug into....if u have the stock headunit, I'd get the subs and amp professionally installed becase its a little harder to hook up to the headunit...
Good Luck!!

This is gonna sound ghetto but it works. I had this set up before I got my Alpine HU installed. What you do is you get a High/low impedance adapter and you connect it to the right speaker. You connect the input wires of the adapter by tapping the right speaker wires. Then the output wires go directly to the amp.
Problem with this is you cant control the bass unless your amp comes with a volume control knob or something. When you turn up the volume on your stock HU, the bass also gets louder and sometimes too loud. Just fiddle around with the gain of your amp I guess. You should also be able to control the output on the adapter.
But if you dont want to do this, just get a aftermarket HU. Most HU come with sub output and you can control the volume of your sub through the HU. Next to debadging your trunk, installing a head unit is probably one of the simplest mods you can do to your car with dramatic results. Takes like an hour or hour and 1/2.

I ran the stock head unit off an aftermarket amp and added 2 subs for the past few years. I did upgrade the speakers because Bose speakers suck!
I now have a completely aftermarket set-up.
Adding an amp to power your subs is very easy to do. However, I would recommend upgrading your speakers for better overall sound.
