Hella Supertone Install.

I just ordered them, no more pu**y horn for me. I just need some incite into the best way to wire them. I'm going to run the relay because I want all 118dB, I just need some help as to the wiring. I'm going to need a crimping tool, shrink wrap, and spade ends/eyelets; so if you can suggest a fairly cheap kit that has all of these that would also be helpful. Thanks fellas

Well, I don't have the wiring info handy, but what I would do is grab a multimeter, unplug your stock horns. Set your meter to DC volts, ground the black lead of the meter and poke your red lead into one of the pins on the horn harness. Go honk the horn (or have a friend do it) and see which pin puts out 12V when the horn is pushed.

As for wiring, you can do this with a simple SPDT Auto relay. You'll want to run a fused wire to the battery and connect it to pin 87 on the relay. Refer to the manual for the horns for the proper amperage. If each horn calls for 3A, use a 7.5A fuse, if they are both 5A, use a 10A fuse, etc. Next, ground pin 85 on the relay. Then tap into the wire on the factory harness that tested for 12V when the horn is pressed and attach this to pin 86. Finally, attach your horn 12v inputs to pin 30. Then obviously ground your horns. Clean up the wiring and enjoy!

Foot notes for above post:

SPDT relay for horns.
Pin 87 - Fusible link to battery
Pin 86 - 12v trigger (12v signal from factory horn harness)
Pin 85 - Ground to chassis
Pin 30 - 12v output to horns

IS an everyday autozone/advance auto going to have the right fused wire from the battery to 87, n what gauge wiring should i use for the rest?

It all depends on what the amperage is of the horns. I would assume you won't need anything higher than 12 gauge. For the trigger from stock, you can use something small like 18gauge or so, as well as the ground from pin 85. Use the same gauge wire going to the new horns as you use for the fused wire running from the battery.

I'm told they draw 12 amps if that at all helps you with your recommendation and wire gauging, i want to get this right the first time. but thanks already.

Another thing is i'm always looking to do an install as cleanly as possible, any idea on routing the wiring so the relay is attached to something and the wires aren't just running all over the place.

You can mount the relay wherever, ideally out of the weather. 12A is not very much current, 12 to 16 gauge wire will be fine if that is the combined amperage. If it's 12A each, I would go with 12 gauge to be safer.

You think mounting the relay in between the Headlight & the Battery, i feel like thats a fairly cool/dry place

Pretty sure the stock alarm uses its own siren. I do agree it sounds odd... When I had picked up my CL a few years ago I said "What the hell was that?". Factory alarm functioned for a total of about 3 hours. Had that entire interior out on the floor as soon as I brought it home, haha. That was a long day... I do miss my CL sometimes.

As far as the starter, do you mean starter kill? I left the entire factory system there, I simply added on my Viper 5900 at the time. Hooked up factory alarm arm and disarm etc. The 5900 also has its own starter kill, which I did as well. Did trunk pop too, the usual stuff.

I just miss my CL because it was a nice little car. There are days I desire to ride around slammed, but I won't do that to the TL. TL keeps me plenty occupied these days

I do wonder what the ultimate fate was of that car, last I knew it was down at an auction yard in jersey.

Going to picture whore, shhhh!

You can use all the stock wiring, just replace the relay behind the center console, and remove the wires from the stock horns, and hook them up to the new super tones. I was the first one to do this and I wrote up a summary of it somewhere, but my pics aren't hosted anymore. But all you need is the stock wires and the new relay.

No prob bro, I've had my horns for 4 or 5 years, and they still work perfect, I just used them the other day. PM me a day or so in advance so I have time to get back to you.
