got my tint done today... need some advice
okay so i finally got my tint done today... the guy who did it worked with me at the Nissan dealership, and everyone there recommended him very highly. he has his own shop, so he does this stuff a lot. the dealership even hires him to tint cars for them when customers request it. sooo i felt pretty safe having him do it.
well i just picked it up, and there are a few "issues"... first of all, he didn't tint over the brake light. i hadn't even thought of this beforehand, but to me it looks really ghetto to have the whole back end of my car completely blacked out with the exception of this one lil square... eww
of course he did it that way for legal reasons, but he also said he didn't realize that i already have a brake light on my spoiler...
second issue is that he used a different (thicker) tint on the side windows, for durability... the problem is that i guess he hadn't used this particular brand before, cuz even though it's *supposed* to be black, just like the back window, it definitely looks very mirrored... not as reflective as mirror tint (which i hate with a passion) but it looks way different from the stuff on the back.
third issue is the back window... now personally, i haven't looked closely at that many tinted cars. but i always kinda thought they were supposed to look a lil better than how he did mine. he did it in 3 pieces... and where the seams are, it overlaps almost a 1/4 inch in some places. so when you look at it from the inside, it looks like stripes. is this normal????
he said that, if i wanted him to, he'd redo the back window so it covers the brake light... OR redo the side windows so they match the back and aren't mirrory-looking. honestly, i wish he'd redo the whole thing cuz it isn't really what i expected...
the only good thing is that the overall quality (aside from the back window) is really good... he did an absolutely perfect job on the sides, i just wish they weren't so mirrored looking!!
so anyways... what should i do??? i could really use some advice from you people who know a lot about tint!!

blah blah blah
back window over lapping 1/4 inch? I never heard of that before. usually is one whole piece i think.....i would have him redo the back window for sure, cause of the brake light. Looks really ghetto with it not tinted...

Basically, this guy is shitty. I'd get my money back and take it to some one else. I never herd of some one cutting the back window into three pieces. Usually its one piece. All the tint jobs I had, were one piece. Anywho, post up some pics so we can get a better idea how bad it really is.

pics would be good. but i agree. the only times i have seen back windows are in 3 pieces are ghetto ass cars that were done at cheap ghetto places. all tint shop should have films that are wide enough to cover the back window. take the car back and either have him redo everything or give you your $$$ back and some more. freaking waste of time and energy

I'm glad someone posted this thread. I'm having the car tinted this week and I'll make sure the rear window gets a one piece instead of layers. Thanks, Mesmerize, and I hope your situation gets straightened out.

the thing is that i love way it looks on the back (from the outside at least!)... just solid black -- i think that looks so sweet on a black car. i really want the sides to have that look too.

I'd demand a refund. Ten years ago a three piece back window tint job was o.k..... but not today. It was pretty stupid of the guy to put different tint on the side windows that doesn't match. That whole thing about thicker tint for durability is complete b.s. He was just feeding you a lie to cover his ass. He probably ran out of the other tint and just slapped something similar on there. He cut around the brake light because it takes a little more effort to tint the entire window. He didn't realize you had a spoiler light? My ass. Sorry about all this....Hope it works out.

Mine came out alright. While the tint was drying, I would take a credit card and run it lightly on it. Eventually, it got stuck to the dots. I did the same on the passenger and driver side.

you would think that since you work at a tint shop you'd be able to spell it right

aighty here we go...
in the first pic you can kinda see how much more reflective the sides are, compared to the back. in person it's a lot more noticeable, plus the sides definitely have a yellowish/greenish kinda look to them.

icky non-tinted brake light
http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...5/f8dee11a.jpg
and last but not least... my lovely back window please excuse the trees.. haha
notice the 1/4 inch overlaps and the snazzy part that he totally screwed up down in the left corner...

i hope these pics are gonna show up alright, i think this is my first time actually posting pics in a thread

Very, very poor rear window tint!
I can assure you that using three pieces with an overlap, let alone leaving a gap in the corner like he did, is totally unacceptable! Get a refund ... if need be, take these pictures and him to small claims court. If you want pictures of how clean it should look like through the back window, let me/us know - I will take pictures and send it to you!

BTW, how much did you pay? If it was a real cheap job, then you may have "gotten what you paid for".
When I had the rear and the side windows of my wife's Acura 2.2CL done, it cost near $175 (as I recall).

it was $125... i was definitely expecting to pay more than that, but whatever. i didn't pick this guy because he was cheap, i picked him because a bunch of "car people" recommended him!! my only other option was to pick some place at random, which i didn't think would be very smart.
i guess some things u just can't predict

that definately may be the worst ting job I have ever seen in my life.
But welcome to the business, shady shit happens. Hopefully he'll make right. Otherwise give him bad publicity. Put a big sign on your car that says the name of his tint shop

your inconvenience.

the dude has a phone number you can call with a voice recording of the whole story and everything. its unbelievable. here are some more:
As far as the situation goes, just go back to the guy and be polite but frank with him. I'm sure he'd rather redo the job or refund your money instead of being completely trashed....but don't worry, shotty service isn't uncommon by any means.
