Riding through town this young kid guns it at the stop light, so I thought, ok let me give it a shot. Next like turns green he guns it and jumps right off the line. I wasnt even ready. I was still slowing down for the red light. My point is is that his car really seemed to be pretty quick. It looked all stock from what I could see and it was the 2-door model. I dont know much about them, but I think he may have been able to take me if we lined them up side by side. Im not much of a Street Racer as I am married with kids, however I have been known to do a few sprint starts here and there at an occasional traffic light.

Yes/No/maybe??? Whats your guys thoughts?

thats funny cause i almost got taken by a alero. but i took off after 3rd in the auto tranny

but they are quick, the toyota solara is a little quick too and have given me the run for my money once

OK I feel a little better....I didnt have enough road to get to 3rd in my AUTO I just wanted to know that I wasnt crazy...it was just something about that guy in his Alero that kind of annoyed me. Thats the funny thing about our cars...even if you have no desire to race....as soon as they see you they think you do.

Not true!

I personally saw an Alero chase and catch a Subaru WRX on the beltway here a couple of months ago. I posted a theread on it, so search for it if youo don't believe me.

The Alero had a police package because the driver had dropped a light on the dash, punched it, and proceeded to walk this WRX down. It looked like a stock 2 door to me, until he hit the gas.

Don't sleep on them, those engines have something in them, I dunno what, but I know what I saw.

They have some good low end torques but peter out in the higher RPM's. They're just rebadged Grand Am's. I didn't think they were all that quick. I think he just got a good jump on you.

The Alero GLS Coupe has a 3.4 liter V6 with 170 HP and 200 ft-lb of Torque. They weight about 150 lbs. less than a 3.0CL.

I had a grand am v6 as a rental car back in MAY, those things are slow as piss and handle like crap. My I4 felt much peppier and faster then the that car ever did, the entire week i had it, i was so disappointed by that pos.

I had a Grand Am GT as a rental a year back and I was expecting a lot more performance than it had. I couldn't wait to nail it and see what it could so. I was slow and the engine was really rough and grainy though the RPM's. Maybe because I was in Denver Colorado it was slower because of the thin air up there.

my friends got an alero...he said its a 3.4 !!! is that true!!?? We went from a rolling once, wasnt perfectly timed but we both kep side by side...sooo whats the anwser??

my friend got a alero for a rental car in utah, and he said that it was really quick! and he drives a GSX eclipse... err... maybe thats the reason why it seemed so quick... he also says it handles pretty well, and pulls 180's really well!

I had a 03 Grand Prix 3.something L V6 for a rental last year. That thing is remarkably slow. I thought it was 4cyc at first but I looked under the hood. Do they put governors on rental cars??
