Zaino Z5. This stuff fills in the swirls so they disappear. I had some minor swirls from using a wash mit (100 Cotton). I used applied 3 layers of Z5 and they are gone.

Swirls happens no matter how careful you are. Anyway, read up on Zaino and you'll see the results. There's other surface scratch solutions out here as well.

Good luck.

Go to Griot's garage online, very very good polishing materials etc. It will be a several step process but you prbably didn't get through the clear coat so you should be able to polish it out. It'll end up costing you around 70.00 for all the amterials and several hours of hard labor, but it'll be worth it

Take it to a professional and get it buffed out. Contrary to what people might say or think, swirls are avoidable. You have to find someone who knows what they're doing. Even on my blue, there isnt a swirl to be found. You'd be in a better position to pay someone with experience than trying to do it yourself.

As for the Zaino, if it just fills the swirls, then its not removing them. They're still there, just hidden. Get them taken out. It can be done ~~~~~~>

NO SWIRLS

NO ZAINO

That doesnt matter. When it was white, it still looked perfect, even after 6 years. Also, my dad has a black 97 Lexus that I take care of, no swirls, and no zaino. Its all upkeep.

hey as offensive as this may come off as, your car is alright... katana18, its not all that great.
personally i feel that the bags are overkill, and your spray looks like a imitation of the si. but good job on keeping away the swirls.

Well, it doesnt have bags any more. Imitation of the si? What si? I never said my car was 'all that great', but since we're on the subject of great cars, lemme see yours, i want some ideas.

Meguiar's Gold Class car wash soap

Wax, I have a few different kinds. I use Meguiars Premium Paint Protection, along with a pure Carnauba wax as a topper. The MPPP is a polymer, which gives longer protection, while the carnauba is for shine and gloss.

Between those, like every 2 months, I do a polish using my buffer. A soft pad and some mirror glaze usually does the trick. I've never clayed it, since its garaged and I always watch where I park. I ll eventually do one though.

z5 makes swirls disappear? UM, NO!

car needs to be probably polished to remove the swirls. There are products out there that can hide them (Like Z5 supposobly can), but it wears off quick.

Griots makes cool little toys (I have a large amount of their catalog) but their polishes IMO are crap and don't last for shit.

For polishes I use Megs #83 DACP and #80 Speed Glaze (#83 when it's pretty beat up)

I then go over w/ a sealent (This ranges from me, from NXT, Zaino, Rejex)

Then I usually top the next day w/ a carnuba (P21S/S100, Megs #26, Megs #16 which probably gives the best protection)

I personally think Zaino is overrated, it's a great product don't get me wrong, and it lasts forever. Just doesn't do much to the paint for me.

Will polishing get rid of the swirls for good, or would it be better to take it into an autobody shop to get it buffed out?

wolf, you dont necessarily have to go to a bodyshop, just go to a top notch detail shop. Use word of mouth. Find out who does a good job and who doesnt. It should run you between 100-150, depending on how bad the condition is. Negotiate a little. But, dont go for the lowest bidder, usually they're just trying to get work. If a guy stands pretty firm, thats a good indicator that he knows what his service is worth.

I won't touch a car w/ polish for 100, maybe 150 but I won't be doing any serious work

For smaller cars, I usually do a clay and polish + wax for like a $100 or so. It only takes me like 90 min, so its not big deal to me. I've got it down to a science now. But if a car is really fucked up, believe me, i ll charge em.
