gas warning light?

hey all,

When is the gas warning light suppose to come on, today the needle was almost touching the gas symbol on the guage, when i went to go start the car it wouldn't start the first time, the 2nd try it hessitated and then started. I went and put some gas in to be on the safe side, the needle was low that I'd assume the gas warning light should've came on way before, how do i know if the light is burnt out on the instrument pannel or maybe the sensor for the low gas warning is shot?

i see my light every time, i usually have to put around 16 gallons in to fill it. atleast this way there isnt enough time for crap to accumulate at the bottom lol. the light starts off very dim and as you drain the tank more and more the light gets brighter.

Really? That's interesting... I've never noticed that. Cool idea, I guess. My light usually never comes on, I fill up before that.

I never see mine either. I've tried driving it way below E, but was too scared to go on. Ended up putting in 15.6 gallons in that night.

I've seen mine only twice and it was at E. I usually get panicky before it even gets there. I try and have half a tank at all times. The only times I get close to the end was when I was testing mpg.

My mini dings when the it hits low plus the light. Btw, that's mini-van...heheheh

Ok, so this is a common problem...what is the fix?

Mine doesn't come on either, i've tested it before and had to take the walk of shame also. I changed the light in the gauge cluster when i was doing the LED swap, and it hasn't helped.

How is this fixed? What controls the light would be our best place to start, where is the sensor? is it a float type sensor in the tank or is electric?

After i've thought about it - it has to be a float type, hence the reason the fuel quanity gauge fluctuates depending on slope ect. Besides is cheaper.

ya.. my gas light has never came on... and my needle does this thing... when it gets below 1/4 of a tank... it will go on E when I come to a stop sign or something... I instantly freak out... but when I start driving it may increase to the 1/4 mark... whigs me out.... so I figure when I get to 1/4 of a tank... tank that bitch up... or I might get paranoid

If you watch, when you tap your reserve tank, the needle goes from E up to a quarter tank, pretty cool if you ask me, the light is kinda misleading though. But I've gone ~50 miles with the light on and didn't sputter once

i just ran the gas light for 30 miles last night and when i went to put it only took 14.6 gallons. if its a 17 gallon tank then that means i had over 2 gallons left. at about 25mpg, thats more than 50 miles, no reason to panic over the light...

My light flickers on as I run out of gas. It's gotta be some kind of floating sensor or something. I need to get myself a Helms.

mine does somethin similar too. It will slowly illuminate then fade 5 mins later, repeat that every 10 mins or. after about 20km, it will light up solid.

2.2 has a 17.2-3 gallon tank, I wouldnt think it would be different for a 3.0. Even if I can run on an low fuel light for 90 miles, I like to keep it above 1/4 because the car has trouble starting if i park on a hill overnight and it has less than 1/4 of a tank.
