Function n Form Type 1 install + other goodies!

Hey guys, i got my hand on a new set of adjustable coil-overs. The Function and Form type 1, which i got for 629+tax (715$). They look amazing and they seem to be well made.




I am still in the process of installing and fine tuning everything, i should be done by this weekend.




Two things caught my eye:
1st: there is no bracket to hold the front brake lines, but regular zip ties should do the job
2nd: After e-mailing FnF support to know what is the maximum height i can use, they said to leave at least half an inch of threads. So the max height doesn't match the stock height of a 2.2 cl, it's a little lower.




My older set was some gold line springs on tokico HP shocks. It sat a little over 2 inches lower and the ride was surprisingly soft! What i noticed on the FnF is that the spring is much shorter and the full suspension travel seems to be very short as well. This will probably give me a rather stiff ride!




As you can see in some of the pics, i also installed a Wicked camber kit for the rear. I know the washer trick does the job, but things things look so cool, so why not! :-)

Another thing: Some of you guys ride pretty low, and i know that its a pain in the ass to use a regular jack to lift the car because you have to drive on planks of wood and so on.. And if you use the stock jacks, it takes for ever to lift it.

So this is what i did: I used 2 stock Honda jacks on each side. I made a special tool using a big hook from HomeDepo and a couple of 19mm nut. I welded the nuts to the hook (my welds are terrible, i know) and opened the hook a little in order for it to slide in the hole on the jack. This allows me to use my impact gun with a 19mm key to raise and lower the car without having to worry about it's height!!

Nice, I really like the idea with welding the thing on the scissor jacks, I might have to do that.
How high are you setting your car on the fnf's?

Because i will be driving the car in the winter, i would like the car to be as high as possible. For the summer it'll be as low as i want. I think i have a good 3-3.5" to play with =D

Nicely done.
I would recommend putting your stock suspension back on for winter though for two reasons.
First, depends on what temperature you get there and if its parked outside you can shorten the life of your coilovers with the severe weather, I have never used mine in the winter, but have heard this from other people.
Second, corrosion is a bad thing for coilovers, just look at all the threads on each one, you need to clean them every so often so that the collars will still turn freely. I've never driven my car in winter and mine still manage to corrode pretty easily. And this is especially true in your case where you want to be able to adjust them 3+ inches, then you need to make sure that those 3 inches of threads stay as clean as possible. For me and most other people I don't care too much if mine sieze up because I leave it at the same height all the time.

I blew one of my D2's over the winter last year in Toronto (but probably from having it too stiff), and even though I tried to keep them clean, the threads ended up getting pretty messed up from the stupid amounts of salt they put on our roads and I had a pretty hard time getting it back to normal in the spring. This previous winter I just went with stock, it makes it easier. But I'm sure if you really take care of them you can make it work.

I've spoken to a few people riding on coil-overs in Montreal durign the winter, and Montreal is probably the biggest salt user in Canada! They said the best way to protect the threads is to use marine grease. So i will do just that as well as telling the rustproofing guy to spray my shocks really well.

It should be too bad! =D

I had those coils when I had my CL, they go low enough to lay the body on the ground, so yeah.. plenty of adjustment. They ride great though, loved them.

I drove around the block on the highest setting and they were quite nice, i was expecting a harsher ride!

If anyone is is thinking of using the stock scissor jacks like i did, make sure to put real jack stands asap.

I had a little mishap when one of the jacks sunk into the asphalt (it was rly hot outside), and the car fell down. Only damaged the paint a little, and bent the oil pan, i got lucky!!
