Fun In The Snow = Busted Tire&Rim

Well Crap...I was havin too much fun in the snow last night doin doughnuts and e-break turns, on my way drivin home my car started rattling, thumping and pulling hard to the right. When I got home, I bet you can guess what I found...

http://photos.yahoo.com/carroll9858

Im gonna throw the spare on tomorrow and go up to the local tire place that I deal with.

My question is, because I have low profile tires, and say it wasnt aired up all the way, could I of just pulled the tire off the rim or worse, is the tire probably blown?

Im hoping they can just out the tire back on the rim and fill it up and i'll be good. (i only drove 1 mile on it goin like 30mph)

What do u guys think? Am I screwed? (If I need a new tire thats gonna suck because they have to special order them and it takes like a week +)

a friend did this on slightly wet pavement, just turned the wheel and the tire popped off...

started clunking and we pulled over.

he refilled with air and it popped back on. I asked him if he had ever checked the tire pressure

of course he hadnt.

I did that a couple years ago when I was stuck in the snow. I spun my wheels constantly for a good hour-long trip home in the snow. I had to leave the car b/c my passenger's side front tires completely came off the wheel. No damage. waited 3 days for snow to melt, and took tire and wheel to shop and everything was ok!

well honestly because of the smaller side wall of the tires and the thread of the tires it woudl not be the wisest thing to keep them on. also even though they are power coated salt will still eat thru that. good luck fixing that hopefully its free

I would make sure you did not tear anything on the sidewall of the tire. If that is all intact you shouldn't have any problem fixing the tire. Also you probably should get a Ford Escort or something if you wanna thrash a ride.

then you're gonna have to take account of the potholes that happen because of the winter and the plowtrucks/salt. Good luck replacin ur blownout tires and bendin ur rims back to normal

I'm not sure exactly with low profiles, but you do have to make sure that the sidewall on the inside of the rim is not worn. Driving on a normal size tire on a completely flat tire will definitly wreak your sidewall on the inside. You will see all kinds of shavings on the inside if this is the case. It will be safest for the tire place to pull it all the way off and inspect the inside sidewall.

My family is friends with a local hotrod/bodyshop here in town. My car got $3500 worth of damage because of a bad hail storm, Insurance paied for everything, because of all the hail dents, they repainted the whole car, and then painted the WW Lip and debadged the emblems for me for free. So yea, its a really nice shop that did it. It use to look sooo good but lately the snow and wear on the paint has made it dull. I cant wait until spring when i can buff and wax and shine! lol

Their arn't many pot holes where I live. Now, if you cross over into Missouri, your screwed...theose roads suck. But here in Kansas, their isnt many pot holes. I think this is the 2nd winter my wheels have been in, they arnt showing signs of damage. And besides, I know someone who will sand blast, and powdercoat them any color I want for $50. (thats what I did when I got the wheels...that color on the wheels isnt stock...it actually has little sparkels and flake shit in it so when the sun hits it they like sparkel and twinkle...lol...hard to explane but cool as shit to see.

Thanks For All Your Help with my wheel and tire crap...im gettin ready to leave right now to hopfully get it fixed. God I hope that tire isnt bad or its gonna be a week before I can drive my car because they have to special order the tire....And Ive been without my car for one day and im already sick of ridin bitch in my girlfriends car...lol

even though kansas doesnt have potholes you still should put your regular tires back on, your regular tires are going to be a/t and all weather, low profile tires are going to be summer tires that are HORRIBLE in the snow. my friend made the mistake of being lazy and not putting on his regular tires and let it get all icy outside for a week or so and he ended up having to buy 2 new is300 wheels after bending one and getting bad curb rash on another, and he had dunlop 9000s on(i think thats the right tire, it was last winter and he has gone thru 2 cars since then, not wrecks, just bought and sold), which shouldnt be in the snow at all.
i also had an accident like that back in the day when i had my first car, it was a chevy silverado and i slide into a curb and the curb was kind of broken up and i somehow popped my tire on the curb, so i had to fix it.

just cause there arent any potholes in overland park(and there arent) doesnt mean there arent other ways for you to fuck up your wheels. so just be careful

Hahaha thanks...hell, ive been workin allottt! Since ive turned 19 and now at college, things have toned down a bit. I remember back in highschool workin 3 jobs and just spendin $ on my car like crazy...lol Over the summers I'd work full time and just make hella bank. Everything I've bought for my car, including the car was my own money. (my parents didnt approve of me pimpin out the ride....although everytime i got somethin new (Wheels, WWlip/TV&DVD..etc.) they always agreed it made the car look better. lol

So yea, thanks for the compliment! Its a working progress, just gotta work hard and knowing how to do some installs will save you $$. (ive probably spend almost a grand getting things installed, which sucks...)

yeah, im pretty sure tirerack.com reviews all the tires and tells you how good they are in the snow and rain and stuff, my friend had all season tires on his talon but the snow rating was like a 1, so it just kind of depends, all season doesnt necessarily mean they are gonna last in the snow, but good luck with the car

well, i guess i joined here april 2002, but i only drove my acura cl for about 6 months in winter 2002/spring 2003, then in spring 2003 i got a 2000 gmc jimmy, then january 16th, 2004 i got a dui in olathe(119th and quivira) and lost my license for a year, and so im getting back february 16th(i got 30 days left after jan 16th then 365 after that) and i still have both the 99 acura and 00 jimmy, and i used to drive both and now my little sister drives both, but i plan on driving the acura more than the jimmy.
but i live at 172nd and antioch(half a mile south of blue valley west high school), and i was at KU last semester, but fucked all my classes up cuz i partied in my fraternity all the time, so now im going to JCCC for the spring(so i can work more on school work and less on drinking and partying) then back to KU in the fall.
