Front wheel pushed towards back of car?

Yeah hey guys the other night I ended up hitting a bump going around a turn pretty fast and now the passenger side front wheel is pushed back towards the back of the car. Any ideas what could be wrong? I took the wheel off and looked for anything wrong but came up with a blank thanks.

i think that would be related to caster. not sure though. I think caster is adjustment front to back, while camber is adjustment side to side.

Only thing that comes up to my mind, is bent control arms. But then again, you never gave a speed at which you hit the bump.

P.S. Dont take fucking turns faster than you know the road.

The speed was about 40. I took it to firestone today and they looked it over. They said they didnt see anything wrong and told me to take it to a frame shop. The camber is at -1.32 on that wheel and the toe is 1.15. So no telling what is wrong.

Let us know what they say. Did you understeer? If so, tap the brakes next time to create oversteer, but be careful.

camber/toe ratio needs to be on the dot or else it could get dangerous at times especially with those numbers

bent/bad (one or more):
hub/bearing
control arm
ball joint (i think you guys have that up front)
strut mount/strut
axle

my $'s on the hub/bearing: are you getting any noise/vibration?

The camber and toe was fine before I hit the bump. Going around the turn my wheel was rubbing and then bang hit the bump so really had no place for the wheel to go. No over or understeer the car handled the bump fine just big bang with suspenson bottoming out in wheel well. No vibration at all when driving car just pulls to the left when I hit the brakes and it looks like the wheel moves farther back in the wheel well when I stop hard causing it to rub on the back.

a bump is something you feel not something you drive over. please be more descriptive in what you hit. do you mean a curb? if so then its definitely your control arm. i ran over a curb in my maxima, front wheels got pushed so far back they were touching fenders, its an easy fix though, takes a few hours to replace.

Bump as in working on the road ran over an uneven part about 3" difference in height half way around the 45 degree turn. if it is the control arm that will be an easy fix thanks

you think you can get a pic of how the wheel sits right now just so we can get a feel for what you're looking at?

well i hit a pot hole right. now it looks like that, rubs when i brake hard and makes this old cracky door noise when the nose dives and also sounds like there are rats under there chirping away when i hit bumps. i know i need new bushings but i just pray nothing is bent..

Def bushings, but sounds like a control arm may be bent.

nutshell sounds like we have the exact same problem. Blackack what bushing do you think needs to be replaced? I would get the energy suspension set but I am selling the car. I am done with it. Oh and there will be a part out coming for anybody that wants some goodies.

so do you both experience weird sounds while turning/driving?

And exactly how much is the wheel pushed back? is it like...more than an inch?

No weird sounds while driving just the metal to metal sound while going over bumps and the scraping while stopping. I just put the photos on webshots but it can take up to 24 hours for them to show. Also the wheel is half an inch closer to the fender than the other one.

yeah mine is about a half inch-ish. and like slayer was saying it has this squeeky ass noise going over bumps. but when you are coming up to a stop, maybe around 5-10 miles an hour, youll hear a creeky grinding noise as if the strut was blown out and rubbing bad as it compressed. ive ordered just about everything but springs and bushings. i just hope i wont have to order any arms..

most likely control arm, check ur axle to but usualy they just move with the control arm/spindle setup

but dont take my word for it i just took suspensions class in school and passed

i would think a reputable suspension shop or an alignment shop would know right away what is wrong... did they tell u if you took it too them? or are you just trying to diagnose the problem yourself?

Well got it looked at by a suspension shop today they couldnt find anything wrong so I took it to a frame shop and they just think the frame slid a half inch so it will cost me 160 to get it moved back into place and then another 55 to get it aligned. The guy said the frame usually slides before the control arm gets bent so it sounds like he knows what hes talking about.

Now my car chirps while I am driving it is annoying as hell. Sounds like I am driving a piece of junk car. I cant wait for it to be fixed.

Frame is not bent. The cross braces on the frame are bolted together. the right front brace slid so they need to move it back. Sounds simple so I asked if I could do it myself and he started explaining it and I figured out it is too much work for me

i dont see how the frame can "slide"...its all bolted up to the body...unless it rips itself out...

see pic attached...

Well I am gonna have to trust a frame shop that people recommended to me. Dont ask me how it works. all he said was they loosen bolts and with force stretch it back out and tighten the bolts.

hmm sounds a bit fishy. i also figured the frame was pretty damn stationary, seeing as how everything rests on it. but im not a mechanic so i guess it doesnt matter. let me know how much they charge for that slayer..i may have to try it out...

usualy when people do new engines and such the k-member, front frame whatever is off (not alot of mechanics match them up) anyways it will throw off your alignment (caster/camber bad) also makes the wheels sit different ways I had to fix a honda accord in the shop (live work)

Mine is just like what you're describing, its been like that since I got it and after I crashed it into a dirt berm/fence last year. Look at the shock towers, I noticed on mine the driver's side is located slightly rearward of the one on the left (by looking at the top cross brace).

yeah thats what i was thinking. i believe mine is something to do with the struts and im sure my shitty bushings are helping them out. ive got new struts but dont have time to put them in myself. or the money to have someone do it. maybe in the spring..
