Front speaker

I am driving to work this morning and am messing around with the balance and fader on the radio and notice the front right speaker is not working. I installed an aftermarket head unit myself and know that the speaker was working earlier. The front right tweeter is working so the connection must be good from the head unit.

I see that I can buy a new speaker for about $9 bucks from Acura Parts, I believe the speakers are stock I haven't even looked at them. Or I could replace both of the fronts with aftermarket 6 1/2 speakers. Does anyone have any recommendations? I saw some Kenwood for pretty good price on Crutchfield. Just keep in mind that this is a second car for me and I just drive it back in forth to work.

One last question while I am at it, can you just take the speaker covers off to get to the speaker on the front door? I had an older Altima and you had to remove the entire door panel just to get to the speaker and it really sucked.

Again, thank you for all of your help,

You have to remove the door panel, if you don't care I'd just replace it with a stock speaker rather than trying to match aftermarkets

Well, if getting the door panel back on is anything like my old Nissan Altima then I am in for one hell of a time.

I probably will just buy a replacement stock so I won't have to go through the trouble of removing both door panels.

It could just be a loose connection to the speaker so $9 plus shipping isn't too bad I guess.

Thanks Black Ack

it's not too hard to get the door panel, just gotta take your time and be patient it'll take you a few times to get it right. Always put it on with the window down that's key.

Since the right tweeter is working I am assuming that the connection to the head unit is good, because there is only 1 front right connection.

I hope that it isn't anything else other than a blown or bad speaker. I guess it could also just be a bad connection as well.

But with my luck you just never know

???????? i was able to remove both front speakers without taking off the door 2 different times. if you have a 90 degree drill attachment then you can just go to town without taking off the door. its not too difficult if you must take off the door. done that more times than i care to count.

When I removed my stock ones, it was to put these in so yeah I had to remove the panels anyway to cut out the back of the baskets

Might have to try the 90 degree attachment, it would be nice to save a little time. I just have to go and find an attachment now

Do all 1st gen CLs come with Bose speakers? Or was that an option? I would imagine not if AcuraParts is selling stock speakers for $9.

There is a night and day difference between even mid-grade aftermarket speakers and stock speakers. If you like loud, nice sounding music then I'd say get a pair of aftermarkets on sale and swap those in. If the stereo is always on FM with the volume low then go for the $9 one.

And if you remove the panel be careful not to break the little clips. (I'm assuming they have them like any other car). Break or damage enough of those and you'll be making a trip to the dealer for new ones and they'll pretty well bend you over the counter when you pay for them.

I got in my car today after work and the speaker is now working, so I guess there must be a loose connection. The thing is that the front right tweeter always works but the front right 6.5 works sometimes. I guess the door panel will have to come off.

The thing that pisses me off is that I bought a replacement speaker so I guess I will just go ahead and put in the new one.

Hopefully, it is just a loose connection.

So I ended up buying some Infinity reference 6.5's for the CL. Hopefully, they will sound great. I have a good bit of bass from the rear 6X9's which I might eventually replace. I saw where I might have to cut out the back of the front speaker bracket in order for these to fit, if so what is good to use to get the backs cut out? I do not have a dremel tool I was wondering what else I could use?

Thanks again for the help!

I put ref 6.5's in my fronts and type-r tweeters up in the dash. I just used some heavy duty scissors and cut the basket off the bracket. All I left was the circular bracket with mounting points. I also dynamatted the doors and they sound pretty good. It's not hard ABS plastic... not terribly hard to cut through. You could use a pair of dikes, tin snips, anything.

I used a new razor blade and that cut through it great. not hard to do. i had a set of the reference's in 2 cars. they sound good but with too much wattage they blow EASILY

I used a dremel, took me like 30 seconds per basket
