Front shock/strut making noise...

My passenger side front shock/strut area is making noise all of the sudden since yesterday. It sounds like an old pogo stick bouncing up and down or what an old mattress sounds like when you jump on it.

That kind of old creeky sound from a spring being pushed down and up. Just wondering if someone can give me advice on what this is probably and what it would cost to fix on my own. Thanx!

My '99 3.0 started making the same noise about a week ago. I haven't had a chance to look at it, but I know that my parent's car was making the exact same noise and it was the bushings on the upper control arm that were squeaking, not the struts. My Dad sprayed some WD-40 on them and their car stopped making the noise... temporarily. It only lasted about a week, then the sqeaking started back up again so I'm guessing to stop it for good they will have to be taken apart or something. I'm gonna try to check mine out this weekend.

You may need new bushings.

is bushings something that is hard to do? Or can the average self taugh mechanic with a repair manual do it?

Not sure if you need any special tools or not. Also cuz I'm a newbie with this, can you be more specific about what you mean by bushings. Thanks!
