firewall access!

Does anyone know where the best place is to pull a line from the battery through the firewall. If i could avoid drilling it would be great. I did a search but only found very vague directions...can anyone elaborate please? I've got a 97.

No one checks the AV board so mods if you could please leave this post here...

THANKS!!

http://www.shantergenian.com/car This is just my progress so far if anyone is intrested.

I have mine threaded through a hole which is almost directly behind the glove box. I have a 3.0 (98). I used a wire coat hander to push through the hole starting in the engine bay than had a friend help me guide it through. Once i had it through, i used electrical tape to tape the line to the coat hanger and than pulled it through...hope that helped.

Look for a bundle of wires which disapper into the firewall.

clver, thats a better idea than mine.. more clean atleast ..

mines a 99, 3.0

from battery side, (right side), i went from battery straight to driverside door. theres a hole next to ur windshield , leading to ur car door... from the car door, i put it down into my carpeting, to the back seat (which is a bitch to get through, if u dont remove it.. but its still possible, u might need a friend in the trunk to grab the wire from ur hand, while ur reaching into ur trunk from the back seat)

thats the ghetto way to do it.. but an option as well..

when i installed new wiring for new amps and rca's , i had it done by a shop, in which they removed the seat, and ran the wires through the middle of the car, instead of the side , like me..

thats another option too...

if u go the getto way,.. (do-it-urself) , then listen to clver.. i think, it may be harder, but much much cleaner =)
or take it to a shop, and ask..

my way:

(requires drilling)

above the brake pedal and towards the door there are pre punched circles so you have less material to drill through, i ran a 0 gauge wire through there no problem

Thanks for the replies!!!

Clver i did see that bundle of wires but how did u cut into it? theres like a large rubber boot on it on both side did u jsut slice it with a razor or something...

Ucicl30 if clver's way dont work im checkin out what u said. im doing the subs now, but later im getting new speakers and amping them too.

Hobo same with ur way...i did see those punched circles i jsut have no idea how where they come out of so its kinda scary to jsut drill.

thanks again!!

later i upgraded to 2 -12's so i needed more juice to my amp.. went to 8ga.. but i think thas the limit.. any bigger, and ui'll have trouble closing ur door =p

o and u got a mono amp.. so make sure to wire up the dual voice coils in bridge!, lower the ohms.. im sure u know wat im talking about =)

(or was it 8ga to 4ga).. shoot i dont remember..

the best way is to drill the proper sized hole into the firewall. (away from all the important guts) put a rubber grommet on it and run ur wire thru. the door thing is extremly ghetto, and will prolly eventually cause ur car to burn to the ground

Done

ok i finished everything and got the setup complete...i used a thick ass copper wire and pushed throuhg the rubber boot and it came out on the other side right under the glove box...amazing! it was so easy. ill post more pics later its too dark to take pics now.

anyone have problems with vibration noise from the bass...if the volume is really high i get a little trunk noise but thats about it...where could it be from??

still not done the trunk setup im gonna get rid of the awkward spaces on the sides.

access to amp from rear seats

thevibration on my car is from the spare tire. I'm sure some dynamat down there would stop that. the trunk itself is noise free. I thoght I heard somewhere that honda has gills in the trunks of there cars for circulating air, that's why on average ampage the trunks don't rattle. I have a round solobaric and an alpine 600 watt amp.

my take on this:

try this.. turn up the volume , let the bass go wild..
while ur trunk is closed, try to lift the trunk door open, with ur finger nails.. this eliminated the trunk vibration noise for me.. therefore, when i opened the trunk, i put some cloth padding on the left and right side of the latch area. it prevents the trunk door from vibrating. i used these 1'x1' towels for mine, on each side. and the problem was corrected
