factory security system
On my son's '97 CL the factory security system has stopped chirping when locking & unlocking. We read in the maual to hold trunk release button & push lock button to activate/deactivate audible chirp but that did not work. Any other ideas? Would replacing stock head unti with an aftemarket head unit affect the security system? Thank you in advance for any help.

I don't think an aftermarket head unit would affect the system- although mine is still stock.
I do remember having some trouble with the audible vs. non-audible alarm activation change- but after many attempts, i was finally able to master it. It's been over a year so i forget the trick but i followed the manual and EVENTUALLY got it. Sorry.

watch to see if the little red light actually blinks on your remote.
Also, I found-out that you are actually changing the signal the remote sends....you're not the system. My remote I carry with my keys was set for non-audible. A few nights ago, I needed to run-out & grab something out of the car. Keys were at the other end of the house so I grabbed my spare remote. Car chirped when I unlocked it (both remotes used to be set to chirp).
Maybe this helps.....maybe it's just useless trivia....

search your car manual for your security system and remote...I think you can actually turn on and off the beeping noise by holding the trunk button and the lock button at the same time for 3 seconds that might work....i can't try on my car anymore because i've got a viper 500 installed....it's either the trunk and the lock button or the trunk and the unlock button...hope that helps out a little

Yeah I had the same thing with it not working the first 500 times I tried. What I did to get it finally working is, press the trunk button, then press the lock button. Hold both down for 3-4 seconds and wait for the red light to blink (about 3-4 seconds). That is what works for me. Hope it helps.

If the remote still works perfectly (except for the chirping) then the battery is still good. Keep trying the "trick" (holding 2 buttons). That should fix your problem.

I changed my head unit and the alarm works fine......I would definately say it's the battery because when the chirpin went, I replaced and it worked fine after
