Exhaust Question

Hey Ya'll
Figured you guys might be able to help me out and get a good price on two things. I need a new muffler and intermediate pipe going to the Cat for my 98 2.3cl. It is currently the stock system, and the past winter in New England killed my stock system. I went to Firestone and they quoted me way too high a price for the muffler and pipe. I need to replace both, as the pipes are rusted from all the salt they use up here for the winter. Sounds like I have a sport exhaust. I want a good price, not too loud like some of the civic tuners have, stock is well, ok I quess. But if I can do better, and increase the HP, then that is even better. I have a good mechanic that can do it, have access to even more people that will help me out for a bottle of vodka, and I think I can do it myself, with a few detailed pointers if available. Any help??? Thanks!

Well, you have a couple options before you:

a) buy a full catback system (greddy, apex'i, etc.) for the accord (94-97 or 98-01 not too sure but probably 94-97) One of these systems may run you about 300+ Install... not too sure maybe in the 400~?

b) go to a muffler shop and have them to the piping for you (this is what I did.) 2.25'' or 2.5'' custom bent piping should do the trick, and all you need is a good muffler to go with it (I went with magnaflow, and I enjoy it wherever I go.) this cost me 145~ w/install. the muffler cost me about 150~. so it came out to about 295/300~ with everything.

good luck, Im sure others will chime in.

Thanks for the suggestion! On a seperate note, I notice you are from Miami. I just drove from Key West to Naples last week. Got stuck in TS Arlene. When I was just outside of Key Largo I got pulled over for doing 72 in a 55. The ticket is for $181.50. Have you ever done the drive, or know of anyone pulled over in the Keys before. This fine sounds excessive for only 17 over. Obviously I have to pay, because I am not going to fly down for court or traffic school.

damn, Arlene you huh? Sorry to hear that. I had a similar ticket... got pulled over for the same thing. You can try and search the ticket clinic, and perhaps they can represent you in court since you wont be able to come back down. I know that its very much likely that if you make your presence, the representive presiding will reduce the fine to something like 100-150$~ / no points/ no school. If you pay, then it will show up on your record...

www.ticketclinic.com give them a call, im sure they'd be more than happy to help you out w/this.

Good luck,
-Alex

The cheapest you will find a full Greddy Catback is about 490.00-510.00(shipped). Then you will have to pay for install, becuase it needs a slight extension.
I am in the middle of doing like agranado. I already have a high flow cat, and a header....but I have a shitty ass muffler. All I need is a good muffler.
Arganado, where did you get your magnaflow from?

if you get a full catback system, get one for a 98-02 accord.. the 97 CL uses the 94-97 2.2L accord engine, but then for 98-99 it changed to the 2.3L, the 4 cyl. for 98-02 accords...if you dont get a full system, i reommend magnaflow, i really like the sound of magnaflow mufflers, although i dont have one, yet... wakeboardfusion has a vid of their car with the magnaflow and it sounds sweet, not too loud or ricey.

sorry about lowballing the catback exhaust prices... I've had my exhaust installed for a while so I dont remember numbers like those.

:ebay: Pt# is in my Sig (14805 I think)

There's a video of Shineynitelite's car floating around on the forums where he shows off his magnamuff. It's the same one I have, and it sounds real nice.

A 98-02 CATBACK WILL NOT FIT A 1999 2.3 CL. Only a 94-97 Exhaust will fit. Trust me, I just went through this dilemma. The Racing Shop told me the same thing, taht a 98-02 would fit. It is nothing like the CLs. GET A 94-97 CATBACK FOR A 99. I am 110% positive of that. However I am not sure if it goes for the 97, because I have a 99.

Which Magnaflow is the best do you guys think??? Arganado...which one you got?? THIS ONE????? HOW ABOUT THIS ONE??? Or this one...

Help me out guys, which one do you guys think will look the best and sound the best on our CLs???

Ok, my lazy ass found the file, but it is a .MOV file. What in the hell do I need to open a .MOV file. I am not familiar with Macs at ALL...but I have a feeling that is where it came from. Oh, and I found some pics of your ride Arganado, that shit looks NICE! Is there any RASP at all in the higher RPMS, because if there isn't...I think I might get that one.

thanks for chiming in... but the question was whether it would fit a 98 you postwhore

INSIDE THE CABIN, it sounds mean at low rpms, most exhaust sound comes between 3k-5k, then after VTEC really starts kicking in, all I hear is CAI...

Shannon should definitely chime in on this too though. Let me see where he is.

btw, for .mov files, you just need quicktime

Funny, I work over in that area, and drive from the Warwick Mall Mon-Fri to Sandy Lane. My CL is Green, but I think I know who you are talking about. I see a black one and a silver one in that area all the time. What you drive?

Hey guys,
Thanks for all of the reply's. I think ya'll forgot something though. You are all talking about what fits the 97 and the 99. Mine is the 2.3 cl 98 with a 5 speed. What should I get, and how much should I pay. I want to keep it as low as possible.

You dont need to go with brand name. You are just buying the name and I dont know whats it like where you live but If i went with Greddy I wont have an exhast for more then a few days. People here steal em shits. You can go with stainless steel (lasts longer) and a non brand name exhaust. At least that what I recommend.

HKS don't put their emblem on the TI mufflers do they? You can go with one of those.

Well, that wasn't me. I do go to that stop & shop sometime, but I drive a 98 2.3 premium. You'll notice me if you see the clear bumper lights. I am the only one with them in the area on a green one as I have seen. Look for me on sandy lane between West Shore Road and 113 to route 5. That is the route that I drive mon-fri. See you around hopefully. Maybe we can meet up and exchange some ideas??

I actually have the HKS carbon TI muffler sitting in my room. It's not for sale, but, if I ever put it on, I'll let you know what it sounds like. I bought it back when I was planning buying this custom turbo kit for my car, but I didnt do it. The exhaust has a 3 inch inlet, so I don't wanna put it on yet.
