i got like $1000 i wanna spend on engine stuff (1997 2.2 CL...slow as hell!!!) what do u giuys think i should go with, everything right now is stock except for a muffler i got. i'm pretty sure i should go with a CAI first, but what then? keep in mind installation charges (if it is to difficult to install by yourself). any suggestions would be great. thanx.

 

h22a, don't waste your time building a SOHC

 

Sell the car and put the $1000 toward buying a different car.

Then, come back to this forum (even though you dont have a CL)and tell everybody to quit wasting their time with mods and endlessly recommend something that you never accomplished.

Go with headers, intake, and nitrous

 

Sell your car, take that money plus the $1000 you have and put a downpayment on a slightly used '01 CL-S. You'll be MUCH happier and achieve much better performance than anything you can ever put in your 4 cylinder CL.

 

Well then why is it that I can beat a CLS with my 4 cylinder? And I'm sure niedejb will be even faster than me when he is boosting. So yes you can achieve better performance than a CLS with a 4 cylinder CL.

 

If you want a race car buy one. I could buy CRX for $1500.00, put $2000.00 in it and smoke all of you all for $3500. But I still only have a CRX. I would do intake, header, cam gear, pullys, Venom 400 for everyday driving. That will give you a couple more horses. CL's (CL= contemporary luxury) do not have a good power to weight ratio they are not in the same class as an M series BMW. I did not buy mine to race, but I did need a little more power. I could of bought a Maxima for the same price. You want to race it, Venom or ZEX nitrous kit.

Get the CAI install it yourself.

Get an exhaust. Install it yourself.

Get AEM underdrive pulleys install yourself.

That ought to take car of the $'s.

 

i'm not lookin for a sports car, i wouldn't have bought a cl if i did. i just need a little something so i can beat cars that i should have no problem with, like old stock integs. my 2.2 is slow as hell so i just want to get atleast to like maybe 175-180 hp. how much does a Venom cost and how much hp? also, i heard my engine i got rite now can't handle nitrous, and that i would need to go with the h22 engine for that.

 

get a CAI, headers, muffler, pulleys. thats about it. The stock exhaust piping is already pretty good so its not worth the $$ to get a whole car back system for 1 or 2 more hp.

yah..save up a few thousand more..to buy a h22avtec engine which is dohcvtec...with 190 hp or 200 hp...your current will not give u much power if u heavy mod it..i use to have a same engine with u on my accrod..i had the dc header ...akimoto air intake..greddy cat back muffler...with is over 1300 and i do not feel the power gain ...and that accord is a manual...so..buy a h22a vtec engine...

You can probably find an obd1 usdm h22a long block for around $1,000. Your still should get another tranny and you'll need an ecu.

 

yah longblock, use your tranny to it blows up.. and ecu is a few hundred
