Engine lacks Power. Tranny?

Whats the deal Forum

Been a while since I've been on here. Its always good to know I can come here where someone knows exactly what your going through with your ride.

I got one for yall Mechanics out there.

I have 97 2.2 and just recently my cars been lacking in power. I was driving down the highway with CRUSIE control then all of a suuden my CRUISE function turns off by its self and my CHECK ENGINE light comes on. Since then I have an automatic and when the gas is pressed sometimes goes into shock and seems like if its going to turn off. I would be in first gear and then suddenly goes straight to 2nd back to first, depending on how hard i have my foot on the pedal.

Whats been done so far. I have a friend who's a mechanic for Honda, he hooked up the computer to the car and the comp said the only thing is that my speed sensor is bad. Nothing new cause my gauges been fucked up. He's cleaned my EGR and put brand new transmission fliud, but i still get the same SYMPTOMS. Im guessing it might be the distributor.

Help a fellow CLer OUT!!

everything in the tranny relys on the speed sensor. if u dont replace it soon ur gonna fawk ur clutchpacks cause the car will always think ur at w.o.t and the tranny will burn it self up (bang into each gear). hate to say it but i think ur gonna need a rebuild....now i definatley would replace the sensor first and see what happens, cause eather way u need a new one. good luck dogg

I've been driving like this for maybe two months. If the tranny rely's on the speed sensor why didn't my mechanic tell me that? (oh he may of said O2 sensor) i don't remember. Anyways my car is now having trouble starting.

Are you guys sure it can;t be the distributor?

ifur having trouble shifting and tranny is shifting sporatically, chance the speed sensor then tranny rebuild slash get another one... should be cheap since 94-97 accords are 7-10 years old. $200 or less.

the transmission allows a certain ammount of fluid by the clutch packs and thru the hydraulic passages varying on the speed of the car. the faster u go the more fluid it takes to shift/stay in gear. the speed sensor is mainly a magnetic pickup that detects the speed the ring gear in the differential is turning.

theres a huge difference between the speed sensor and the O2 sensor. the o2 sensor will only give u bad gas milage and maybee a hickup at wot (wide open throttle). the problem u say sounds like 1 of a gag of things. 1st thing i would do is get the o2 or speed sensor fixed, if still nothing i would replace the distributor cap and rotor, plug wires, plugs, and fuel filter. if still nothing i would have someone check the coil pack if still nothing have someone adjust the throttle position sensor, and check the continuity inthe iac (idle air control valve).

ok... the fluid as u know has to be honda atf, u dont have a pan or gasket, theres no bands (we got clutch packs) the modulator is a type of vaccum advance which we dont have. our trannys are all electronic with its own computer, and theres no oil screen. only a filter which u can ONLY change with the tranny out and taken apart. but if it covers the honda fluid thats worth it alone, since the fluid from acura or honda is like 4$ a quart.

i am gonna take the car there anyway to ask them to try and pull some codes.

is this stupid? sorry for the hijack

autozone pulls codes for free. or u can do it ur self by going to this link..

http://home.insightbb.com/~niedejb/

then go to resources. if u got a 3.0 its exactly the same codes and procedures. if u want to clear the codes disconnect ur battery for 15 minutes. make sure u have the radio code first as it will not work w/o it.

I took it to him again and he changed my spark plugs. I had Bosch Platinum plugs, he said those plugs make your car lose power?! so he put some NGK plugs.

He checked my V-tec and cleaned it.

I made need another Opinion.
