Electrical Problem

1997 cl 3.0 112,000

Last week, i went to start my car, i turned the key to the first position, the indicator lights went on, then everything went completely dead, no power. i took the key out, then back in and the car started, however everything had reset, the clock, radio, etc, as if the battery had been out.

Last night, i was driving, i have a converter plugged in my cig plug for my laptop. The laptop suddenly indicated that it was on battery power. the little green indicator on the converter was on, indicating it was getting some power from the cig adapter, however it wasnt puttig out any power to the laptop plug

Finally, after that started, everything started flickering, headlights, dome lights, and all dash lights.

My battery and alternator are about 3 months old, and i continued to drive the car for another 300 miles last night, battery still at full power, however all problems still exist.. any ideas?

Get a voltmeter and see what your battery reads at. Otherwise, it's an alternator output problem.

Checked all my connections. Yesterday the problem worsened.....

I was driving, suddenly the radio lost power, the ABS light came on, car still driving, with a wierd tick-click noise coming from the passenger airbag area. I pulled over, turned the car off, tried to restart it, car was totally dead no power at all, no clicking or anything, i left the key in the start position, after 30 seconds all power came back on.. I have a small tester, it says battery and alternator are both ok,, any ideas?

I would actually take your altenator out and get it tested. It may not be bad, just on its way.

He said the alternator is almost new. Same thing happened to me, and i excersized my alternator warranty, and now its fine.. When the crazyness happens do u smell anything funny? Or feel your alternator a lot hotter than usual?

took it to strauss they ran a charging system test, said it came up fine, at higher speeds, all the dash/head lights flicker, which makes me think its the alt, however it dosent do it at low speeds, so im not sure how to reproduce the problem when the car is sitting in the shop

I would put 100 bucks on your altenator. Buy a new one and throw it in there and try it. If it works then you win. if thats not it, then take it back.
