Electric Supercharger?
Anybody else seen the electric superchargers On ebay? I saw one advertised on tv a few years back. The one I just saw on ebay advertises 3-4 psi of boost. I am almost willing to buy one just to see if it does anything. What do you all think? Do you think it would hurt anything? They are selling for $34.95 plus shipping.

While I agree with that, the theory behind it seems relatively sound. Obviously it isnt going to compare with conventional forced induction systems, but it could work. My questions are these; how does it kick in? When not active, is there some sort of bypass that allows air in to the motor? Does rain, or other moisture affect it? Like I said, I might try it just for an experiment, however, I doubt I put it on the cl.

it's true...you're just throwing your money away.
although, there are ones that are selling on ebay for like $450 claiming to spin up to 4X as fast as the cheaper ones....they might give you a little bit...

couldnt get the damn link to work, it just kept saying "page not available" If you wanna look, just go to ebay motors and type in electric supercharger. I wish I knew what the rpm's were, I bet I could fabricate something if I could find a comparable speed motor.

Crazier things have happened. Tell me exactly what is wrong with the theory behind it. The biggest thing I can think of is this; Cheap ass plastic parts aside, I would think that it would need to be a type of variable speed motor. So that the boost would increase in paralell with the rpms of the motor, like a exhaust driven turbocharger. I only thought it would be interesting to test it out, or try to fabricate my own.

I once hooked a big ass gas leafblower to a friend's tacoma. We rigged it to the car's throttle. The butt dyno says it worked, but it was totally impractical and stupid... but hillarious to see a hoodless tacoma rolling down the street with a huge leafblower ratchet strapped to the motor. I'd say we were lucky if we made 10 horsies.

Agreed. I can't believe people still fall for this. If anything your car would loose some power because something is in the way of the intake. Your car is going to pump more air in and faster than any electric fan can push at it.
BTW I heard putting stickers on your car will gain you 10HP too! AcuraZine stickers give you 20HP!!!!

You would be lucky if that thing can even convert the Vaccum to Positive Pressure. I doubt it can force feed 3.2 litres at 6000+ rpm.

I fell for nothing, I said it would be an interesting experiment. Havnt you ever done something just to see what would happen? And I did say I wouldnt try it on the cl. Noob or not, I am not stupid. I also metioned the whole blocking the intake thing.

i had a friend get one for a civic, it's funny ass hell. really. he was to lazy to get teh damn thing on. cuz they give u a pressure switch that they tell you to put on the bottom of your pedal to activate it. so that it's only open at wide open throttle. but it'll prob add 3 hp. if that. and be carefull how hard u test it. if that cheap plastic thing breaks and throws something into your intake. your fucked.

I could see a very efficient, high powered fan working, but not some cheap ebay stuff. If I were to give you one reason not to buy it, it would be simply dont give people money that sell a product that most likely wont work.

Maybe some of the boost experts can chime in, let's say you want to run 8psi of boost on a turbo, how much power from the exhaust is required to create that?, because basically it's the same thing as a motor, one should be able to translate that boost into wattage. Which would tell us what is needed to make a real ghetto turbo.![Smile](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I mean really, just get some headers, or like said before some stickers.

exactly what i'm trying to figure out. i have to find something that only draws like 40a max, probly have to get a HD alternator cause i think the 3.0 one only makes like 100a.
i also have to figure out how much thrust i need to overcome the the normal c.f.m. of the engine.

^^do the math and i think youll find that you would need to draw a lot more then you would get in return. kinda like straining your car for little/no/negative gains. but if you try it let us know what happens, good or bad.

says 100a in my service manual. ![Dunno](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/dunno.gif)
well, i've done some more math and the system i'm looking at makes over 21,000 @ 18.4V drawing 60A. which means i'm looking at a 40A draw at 12V and 13,700, motor is spinning at 21,600rpm.
just to get perspective a T72 flows 920 at 14.7 PSI
so yeah i kinda think that might work. i'm just gonna need more fuel.
