el cheapo springs...

Hey guys, I realize that these are not listed in the noob guide, found a guy on craigslist selling new in the box Matrix racing springs for a 94 Accord. He totaled the car and didnt get the springs on before it happened. I realize they are probably an off brand of spring. But has anybody ever heard of them? He is asking 60 bux for them. I know if its too good to be true...But I have seen some people do crazy shit in this economy for money.

i think matrix went out of business, but they were the first company to make our clear corners, I don't know anything about them, do you know what the drop on them is?

I will probably buy them. Hell for 60 bux I can find some one that would buy them from me if I dont use them. Actually dropping the car is gonna have to wait till I move anyway. My drive way is a gravel and mud nightmare. Gonna end up having to replace some stuff just because of it anyway.

You're going to need aftermarket struts with a drop that low for sure.

picking em up tomorrow. Probably be at least a month before they go on. How big a wheel do you think I could fit with a drop that big? And be fairly trouble free.Been looking at 18s', but would be fine with a 17.

you should be fine with a 17, 18 will be ok as long as you use some slim tires

Oh no, would def change the struts. And do a camber kit. Will probably do 17s', just cause i really dont care for rubberband tires. The roads are not that bad here in Tennessee. The traffic kinda sucks at times though. Now I just need to find the wheels I like enough to shell the dough out for. I am a damn cheapskate.

gotta realize the reality here. dropping isn't cheap even if you do it, it does require some special tools. Then there's an alignment. The camber kit cost more than "good" springs. The tires on 17's or 18's are going to cost 200+ a pop. If you dont do the drop correctly with the camber kit and alignment you'll be looking at replacing those 200+ tires quickly. Just drop it or get the wheels, you may be overburdened by doing both in the same time frame.

this job "should" cost
springs $200
struts $400+
camber kit $250
spring compressor, torque wrench $120
Wheels and tires $1200-2000+
alignment $80
total probably 2100-3000

wat.
i think you need to do a little more looking into your pricing... springs, 200$ sure, 400$ struts, sure.. 250$ camber kit? is it made of pure gold...? spring compressor and tq wrench can both be aquired from a lend a tool program.. i know pepboys has one. wheels and tires.. 1200-2000? are we talking dubs here? most wheels and tires ive seen that look good can be had for 400-800.. alignments do generally run 60-80$ though so at least you got that part right.

this is a 2.25 inch drop on 18's with 35 series tires

so u can see there is plenty of room for bigger tires im moving up in size myself.
2.5 and 2.25 aint that much of a difference

I think your a little off. At least for me. The alignment will cost ME about 32 bux.(Im in the car business)Struts I can get for about 10% over cost. Havnt priced those yet.I will not pay 250 for a camber kit. EBAY dude,EBAY. Dont have buy or rent the Tools you list, I already have aftermarket wheels and tires. I just want something else, and I am smart enough to wait till I find what I really like. I honestly hope that you didnt pay that much.

ok I did over estimate, but give me a little credit. My first car rims, 17's did cost me $2k cash. Lowering cost me 1k.

This time I dont have rims. and ok camber kit is $140, that I had wrong. I couldn't rent tools.....small town they rented them out already. Struts didn't cost me $400, but I didnt drop my car 2.5" requiring "good" struts.

Yes, I'm sure you can get things done cheaply, but to start with $40 springs, just left me thinking a bit of a reality check was in order

Lowering my CL cost me ~$600 doing it myself....springs-tools-struts-rear lower mounts-alignment

These were springs bought from an individual needing money. They were, in a sense, used. However they were never installed on the car, the car was totalled before installation. I have looked these up and buying them straight from the manufacturer costs about 200. I know they are not going to be as good as TEINS or anything like that, but, I believe they will do what I need them too. And as I stated above. Even if I dont use them, I am sure I can find some kid to sell them to and make my money back.

wtf 2k for 17's
lowering cost you 600? i did mine with a set of opened end wrenches (lug wrench 14mm and 17mm i belive was all) and zip ties for spring compressors
and you can make a camber kit for 50 cents per washer there is a write on here on how to do it
all it cost me was 15.99 for a 12 pack of Newcastle

It was 1999 when I bought those rims, 17's were considered big then. They were Enkei Katana's, with Falkens I must say I miss those rims, they were sick. Tire rack at the time wanted 2600 for the package I went through a guy I knew and got them down to 2000.

and no Nigerians, I'm only selling on Crag's for local pickup. Got some stereo stuff laying around and a remote starter.

on camber, yeah I know of the washer trick, I'm going to do it this summer, my rear camber is worse than the front, but both ends are around 1 degree off.

I replied too quick, didn't hit all the topics here.

I used a torque wrench because really when it comes to suspension, I dont want to worry that I didnt torque something properly. Seriously I would have trouble driving the way I like, not knowing is such and such is at 33ft lbs.

Zip ties? Now that right there would scare the f'in shit out me. Had a friend that involuntarily skinned his arm not using a compressor properly, I can't imagine using zip ties. Well, I can imagine how you did it, but you know what I mean.

I looked at it this way, If I'm going to save money on the install by doing it myself, I might as well buy some tools while I'm at it. It's tough to convince a wife a need for certain things, but on a project like this, not a problem. So now I've got some good stuff that I basically can use for life.

There's money that can be saved, but all of us have different levels of what we can accept as safe or cheap enough.

took me a few days, so I believe I spent $30 in beer money, I didn't add that to the cost, so 630

ahh college in jersey, the epitome of all drunken times. i woke up to this straight up jersey girl banging on my door one night at 430 in the morning on a thursday. i walk over and open the door in a pair of shorts, thats all. she looks me up and down and goes, oh... shit... your not my boyfriend, then takes 4-5 steps down the hall and just slumps over crying.

only downside to dirnking while working on your car, is if the task is ong enough, you can get into the state of not being able to drive it when your done!
