EGR Valve?
My 98 3.0 w/131k miles on it just had its first problem; the 'check engine' light went on but the car still ran ok.
The dealer diagnosed it as a bad EGR valve and promptly charged me $350 to fix it. The car does run better now and the light is off.
Anyone else need one of these replaced or am I the only one?

are you out of warranty or something? there's an extended warranty on the blocked egr valve problem. it's very common and i think almost all of us have had this problem

the warrenty is up to 150k miles so if your only 131 your still ok
hit your dealer up, and ask them if you qualify for it

Will this info appear on the Acura website or Owner Link?

i dont know the exact part number but acura should have it on hand and theres only 2 bolts to remove it. try to take it off and clean some of the carbon off the bottom first. it may just be stuck alittle. or not getting enough flow.

you'll have to go to the dealer to buy a "EGR valve kit" it's basically the valve and a lil pipe. you take the intake manifold off cuz that's where the carbon build up is. you drill it out w/ a 3/8 (i think) drill bit. BUT BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO BORE THRU THE HOLE. just enough to drill out the carbon. then put that lil pipe in and install the new valve. that should fix the problem

On the 98's this is warrantied for 8 years or 80k miles.
She said at 131k I was too far outside the window.
It figures.

So I can take advantage of this even if I didn't buy the car from the dealer? Sorry if that's a stupid question but I've never dealt with warranties on any of my cars. BTW I have a 97 2.2 with 101K on it.

yes it doesn't matter if you didnt buy it from the dealer. If that were the case, hardly anyone would buy 1-4 year old used cars, or they would probably be worth thousands less

I called the Dealer yesterday and asked if I qualify for the malfunction of the EGR valve and was told yes and was asked if the (CEL) was still on. I told them that I reset the ECU. If it comes back on and the code is for the EGR then they'll fix it free of charge along with the ignition switch. If any of you guys aren't sure call the dealer if you purchased your car from one give them your VIN# they'll check for you....GOOD LUCK...

I haven't visited the dealer since my bumper to bumper expired at 50k.....will they still do the service with all my mods? I've been hesitant to bring it to the dealer because of that.
My check engine light came on yesterday also....and I"m due for the ignition switch recall as well....

I need to replace my EGR valve as I know that's the piece that is bad, but if I get a new one, and I know that the carbon build up is the cause, do I need to replace anything else? I read and saw that there is a hose. Is that something else I need to get. I used the carbon cleaner and got it clean, but then the damn check engine light came on again. So is the EGR valve bad or is the clog just too big? Or should I replace both and clean it? Thanks for your help in advanced.

On mine they cleaned the intake manifold and replaced the egr valve.
I have an extra, brand new egr valve if you want to buy it. I was about to change it myself until i found out about the warranty. Then they didnt want to take the one I bought back because I lost the box it came in. Pm me if your interested in the egr valve. Ill give you a better price than the dealer

I have a 99 3.0 CL. At 40 K they changed my EGR. When I initially called them about my service light comming on and that the code form the ECM was for the EGR malfunction they said they had to look at it before they could honor anything. While I was there I hit them up for the ignition switch. They did not even mention. On the upside they did all the work and for free.
Here it the link to the wedsite for the technical Service Bulletin.

99-045 DEC 01 Recall - EGR System Warranty Extension
99-045 MAR 00 Recall- PCV Hose Routing
Bitch at your Dealer. Here are friendly ones and crooked ones. Most of the times if you tell them you plan to call the acura customer service they might change their song and dance.
I recall is a recall no matter the mileage. Get your money back.

I had some egr codes on my computer, i called acura, they ran my vin on my 97, they said my car does not fall under the egr warranty extension, i was under the impression that all the 97's had this recall, however acura just told me that my specific vin is not covered, has anyone else with a 97 been also told that they do not fall into the recall?

Well, I just bought a 97 CL 3.0 w/ 132k. The MIL was on when I purchased the car, code turns up "insufficient EGR flow". I did some research on the net and ran across some posts speaking of the extended emissions warranty. I called my local Acura dealer, and they immediately stated "yes sir, that problem is covered up to 150k" and didn't mention anything about a specific VIN. I also brought up the fact that Acura had done a recall on the ignition for the 97, and he also informed that it would also be replaced under warranty. I asked should I expect to pay some fees or anything, and he blatently stated that it would be COMPLETELY covered by Acura. But as far as I can tell OWNERS LINK doesn't mention anything about it, but I would thoroughly question anyone who says it isn't covered.
What kinda of company would honor a transferable 150k warranty on anything, other than Acura/Honda? Easily the best cars made...........
