DRL controller unit gone??

Hey has anybody here had their daytime running light module go?? I have one highbeam that refuses to come on 80% of the time, and there's a yellow DRL warning light that comes on when this is the case. Bulbs look ok.. I heard the module is in the steering column and don't try and fix it yourself in case the airbag goes off.. Maybe they were kidding about that??

1. Where is this module on the car?
2. What does it cost?
3. Would this be a reasonable DIY project?

I don't even know where to begin here.. the Chilton manual has circuit diagrams but doesn't show what's in the DRL control unit..

The DRL Control Unit is behind the dash board on the driver side (close to the center console). You can reach it be removing the dashboard lower cover and knee bolster.

How to identify (ghetto style):
You can probably identify it because it's in a cluster of 3 modules that forms a U. Each module has it's own side so it kinda looks like this... |_| Yeah it's a retarded picture. but the DRL unit is on the left side of the "U". The bottom module (not the DRL Unit) has two sets of wires connecting it.

yes, i've had this happen...its an easy fix...relatively. First u'll need to find the module, and its under the streeing wheel, closer to the center console. It's hard to reach though...i had to lie down on the floor and crawl in head first, while facing the roof of the car...if that makes sense. the module is a gray box, and the side to connect the cable is blue. It will run you about 100 or more at the dealership or about 40 on ebay for a refurbrished one. or you can take yours out and solder the contacts that are bad. hope this helps
