Diy Cai

[SIZE=3][SIZE=1][FONT=courier new][COLOR=blue]i have been planning to get an AEM cai on my car. the one that fits 98 accord v6, but i don't think it is worth the $250 plus $40 for the bypass valve. so i have made a cheapy too get me by until i actually make one. what i did for now is take out the old resonator and box filter, then slipped on the CAI style filter to the plastic tubing connected to the throttle body and clamped it in place. i also had to brace it temporarily to keep from rattling. it is louder (I LIKE MY THROATY V6), and i can already tell a slight difference in the pick up. however satisfying this may be, i still want the real deal. if you click on the link i have provided you will see perfectly cut out plans for how to make one identical to the AEM CAI. the only difference is that the pics are for a del sol, and our engine bay is a mirrored image. but the way it all fits in is the same. i am going to be doing it soon. i have to locate the items needed to make it first. i would like some feedback from some of the ELITE CLers around her like dustbuster. it would help to know if anybody else is going to do this so that we could help each other through any road bumps along the way.AIR INTAKE :wackit:

Interesting, good ingenuity, but just remember we call those short ram intakes because your still sucking in warm air from inside the engin bay. If you really wanna engineer something go to a hard ware store or home depot, and buy the metal hose youd attach to the back of the dryer that matches your throttle body size. You can run this down through the old resonator chamber hole that goes into the bumper and towards your grill, and you can clamp your filter to it. Then you can save for the CAI

DIY

jttoombs your saying what i have now is a short ram. yes that is true, but the main thing i want to show is with the link about making the real CAI and that is what i am going to do in a week or so. i have the money to buy an AEM, but i would rather make my own. i guess i am a DIY kind of guy. i want to see the dyno resluts for the DIY one verse the AEM before i decide.

I read that same article about a week ago and I was considering making one myself. I was just wondering if it would be easier and better to buy a generic CAI for like $50-$75 on ebay?
