Custom Projector headlamp...Finished driver's side
Custom Projector headlamp...Finished driver's side
Who cares but just posting a few pics of an H7 projector installed in my headlamp. Wasn't too difficult, took about two hours.
No HID as of yet but regardless projectors are the way to go. Even with regular bulbs the projectors focuses the light and makes everything alot brighter compared to stock.
So, it's a recommended upgrade even without HID. These are H7 projectors and with boosted wattage bulbs I should be getting about 1800 lumens or more!!! HIDs are about 3000 lumens so it's not too bad.
Thanks VXCL for the inspiration

Hey guys,
Thanks for all the replies and comments, they are all appreciated. I spent $40 on the H7 Projectors. I just used a dremmel tool to cut out the reflector in the headlamp to the size of the projector. That's where the major cutting took place.
With screws and brackets that hold the 9006 bulb removed you already have a large 3" hole in the housing and it's just a matter of cutting the reflector. Then drilling three holes for screws to hold the projector in. Adjusting the projectors may be a little difficult since for me it would be playing around with these three screws. Working on a better way. Hey VXCL did you master this? If so, mind sharing the blueprints?
If you all take a shot at it I'm pretty sure you would get it right the first time.
I'll make a guide with pictures when I do the right headlamp and that way you guys have an idea.
Anyway it is a a fairly cheap modification and a major enhancement in the CL's lighting. I'll simply get rebased bulbs later or just mount a D2S bulb in the projectors. Right now I have the 9006 bulb in there and it works fine...with the coveted cut-off line!!!
Thanks again!!!

whoa...sooo i could get projectors for $50...and just like install them easy and you can still run a 9006 bulb??? how is that!?! wiierd...but very cool...humm i might have to think about this mod...i take it, its not that difficult?? what if i didnt want to use a 9006 anymore, could i get somethin more powerful??
The projectors I bought were made for H7 bulbs. I just bent the tabs in to hold my 9006 bulbs temporarily until I get my 100W H7 bulbs. That way they are very powerful, and literally hot but still powerful.
Okay maybe I should put this disclaimer before everyone may jump on my case after they may have fucked up.
***Those faint at heart should take great caution in doing this conversion!!!!!***
But really it's just a matter of marking off the reflector and then cutting, the only way you could mess up is by cutting too much. So those who could never color in the lines be very careful!!!!
Seriously if you cut the hole just right and make the projector fit snugly you probably won't even have to use screws, but I did just for security. But without them I can bang the headlights around and the projector still doesn't fall out. Either way they still look good!!!
Hope this may answer more of your questions.
Still haven't worked on the passenger side yet. Just finished painting the car, white with a blue pearl. Came out better than I thought!!!!
I'll post pics if anyone wants to see.

u mounted the projector so far back, did it fit in the car? i have had to mount them way further inside, about another 2-3" in order to get mine to work. and these bi-xenons are proving to be a REAL BITCH. i have no idea how the hell im going to seal up the back of the headlamp. on my old housings i had to cut almost everything out. havent touched the new ones yet. as far as mounting them better just cut the back of the housing off, and screw the projector to the oem reflector. this way u utilize oem aiming. but for my bi-xenons this will not work. i am goin to just mount them fixed. just aim them before i seal it all up if i ever figure that out.
Here are some pics of the projectors on the car. As you can see the car is not quite done but just to get a feel for the projectors.
Pic of the cut off line. This is with the 9006 bulbs. Works for now. Not too clear, but I assure you it was alot brighter than that of the pic.

an h7 bulb will be positioned properly in the projector and will net better output. since ur projector is mounted so far back u might want to paint the low beam reflector black so u get the evil eye look like this

and u will get rid of any unwanted glare.

Damn i don't have the balls to do it myself, maybe i can find a shop or something. hmmm...
Update!!!! No longer EASY
I was completely wrong folks. Yes the driver's side was easy but had to do it all over to make it even with the passenger side since with my 3.0 clearance is an issue with the ABS brake pump.
Hey VXCL you were right I had to cut out the whole back of the housing to push the projectors as much forward as possible.
Okay folks I have pics of what needs to be done, not neat but works. It is a helluva lot of cutting required. And to adjust the beam I have to literally move the headlight around. Since I had everything bolted into what's left of the housing. I'll post pics when I get on my other computer.
Anyhow, it's no longer an "easy" task, but I'd say "medium". Still isn't too difficult. Just takes patience.

i figured out how to do it. but sealing it up is another story.
i have to disagree and say that a projector converson is extremely tedious and ur brain will be workin overtime. mounting them is 1/3 the battle. sealing them back up is 2/3 the battle.
Now your scaring me. I was going to do the conversion and eventually get hids but now im skeptical. Is it easy? I am not very faint at heart. I appreciate little things that are alot of work but are custom and look great. How hard is it? How long does it take? How did you reseal the lights where you cut out? See I want to do it, but it moisture gets in there, then I dont think it will be worth it. I am going to take my headlamps off to paint the inside so its not a matter of being scared. You also said that its not great but it works?????
Pics Pics Pics!!!!
To all that have been waiting. Here are pics, or rather, some pics that I have taken of my install. It doesn't look neat since it's my first time. However, if I take a second shot at it I'll get that think looking professionally done. But doesn't matter anymore...everything works great and plus no fogging of the lenses, but adjusting them is not as easy as before.

Only beginning. Front shot of headlight before all work will be done.

Back of headlight, starting to delve into it now.
Those six screws are what needs to be taken out.
The bulb cap needs to be taken out. It's a hex screw, so good to have some tools around.
This is the pic of the headlamp's back after the cutting has taken place. Didn't have the right attachment...well it broke so used a grinding stone and basically it didn't cut the housing just melted it away little by little. So if you have the right tools it come out looking whole lot better.
Pic of the projector temporarily installed.
Pic of the front with projector as far in as back of housing would permit.
Front shot of Projector
Sealer that I used. It's urethane, which is also used in the newer headlamps from OEM manufacturers. Bought this tube at a auto glass store. Heavy duty stuff!!!
Pic of projector sealed, with the Urethane around the edges.
Pics of projector headlamps on the car
Another one
Hopefully these pics give you an idea of how partly it must be done.
Good luck modding!!!!
And don't get cold feet too soon clforeversj
Peace

By the way once of the tasks that must be performed is to remove the lens from the housing. The way I've done this is by using a regular lighter. This method takes time but others have said to bake the headlights in the oven for a few minutes.
Basically I heat up the headlamp with the lighter at the edges and slowly pry them off. This for me took about half an hour. Another thing I have done in the past is to leave them on the car and with the engine on and with both high and low beams on, the heat created will allow the slow release of the lens. That way if separated on the car the bumper does not have to be removed.
Hope that made sense.

Hey man,
Thanks!!! I finished buffing half the car and I have to say wow what a huge friggin difference. I'll post pics once I finish the whole car. Man it's smooth as glass.
I had Maaco paint it before and now seeing the difference, they did a sorry ass job.
Anyhow, thanks for the comments again!!!
