Cracked windshield
Cracked windshield
Yesterday, when I was going home from work, the car in front of me picked up a rock and threw it into my windshield. It cracked instantly and the crack is now about a foot long. I am getting it replaced for free as my insurance covers it without a deductible. My question is - how long can keep driving with the cracked windshield? Is it safe?
watch that sucka grow on you! mine cracked a lil while ago and i also get a free one (thanks florida!) but watch out....i've heard that you can get a ticket for cracked windshield if you get pulled over for something else! anyway, mines been cracked for about a month now....i put some windshield crack glue in it tho......and it stopped spreading...but be careful...that crack will spread if it rains or cools down, or humidity or sunlight or anything!
I would replace it right alway if it's a crack (like a line). If it's like a star kinda crack it will be okay. But with a hair line crack change it out. I had one, it was about a inch long, and the next day it was about a feet long cause of the weather. It's unsafe.
This is freaking unbelievable! I just went to the parking lot and it is almost 2 feet long now! It's double the size it was last night! I am getting it replaced tomorrow afternoon; I hope it won't crap out on me by then.

I asked about it when I called my insurance. The claim assistant said that the underwriters would not raise premiums in cases like this since this is a comprehensive claim, not collision. A comprehensive claim does not affect your driving ability or skills.

is the molding and everything in good? I had my rear replaced and the molding looks like shit.
I didn't pay a dime. The insurance rep said I wouldn't because FL law requires that there is no deductible on the windshield replacement.
The windshield looks good. The guy that came out to replace it said he had been doing it for 15 years. It took him no more than 15-20 minutes to replace.
As far as raising the insurance premium, this will most likely not happen, but even if it does, it will not be more than $50 a year. The cheapest windshield replacement is about $240. So I would be paying for the replacement about 5 years, 50 bux a year. By then my insurance may go down because of the good driving record, or it may go up because of the bad one. It's all relative.
MYcarmensita, I have been working for an insurance agency for 2 and 1/2 years... I should know
