Considering a 3.0 need advice

I have the opportunity to purchase a 2 owner 99 3.0 with 167k for $3k or less. It's on the original trans, but timing belt and water pump was done 30k ago, alternator was just replaced, and tires are only about a year old. Paint and interior seems to be in good condition, so overall its a solid car.

I am not a stranger to the Trans recall as I used to own an 02 TL Type-S. My question is, is there anything to do to prevent the failure of the trans. I have read somewhere on AZ that there are some preventative measures I could take to keep the trans shifting healthy. Unfortunately, I can't locate the thread. I need it to last me a good 2 or 3 years. The price seems good and its a friend of a friends car so i know that there are no underlying issues. My main concern is the transmission, so any help would be great. Thanks in advance

that's a LOT of miles for the original trans, but all you can really do is keep up on the fluid changes, monitor the fluid for a burnt smell and metal shavings, and install a tranny cooler.

^true story. I've heard Pressure switches do some good replacing; but definitely a cooler. Good luck.

<--- Original Tranny going strong on 165K.

Pretty much a hit or miss thing with the tranny, some people go through them every 50K miles, some just never have issues with them. As BlackAck already stated, just make sure you're keeping up with your regular maintenance to at least give you some peace of mind.
