component speakers for 98 2.3

You buddies,

i want to replace the stock speakers up from, what are you guys using? I am worried that speakers with big magnets will have clearance problems in the doors, can somebody tell me what fits. Also, I want to put new tweeters in the stock position in the dash, is this hard to do ?

thanks

I haven't upgraded any of my speakers (yet), but i would definitely check out www.crutchfield.com and get a catalog. They have everything sized to tell you what will fit in almost any year/model/make car.

Replacing the stock tweeters is really easy.
Just pry up the grilles and unscrew the original tweeters.
I replaced my factory components with Boston
Pro series components and they fit rather easily. The tweeters didn't fit exactly but they were a close enough fit to use the factory grilles.

Like UDMechE said, crutchfield has a great wealth of info for you, but I would definitely shop around once you have made your choices. Crutchfield's prices on some things are... well, not very competitive.

Crutchfield's prices can be alittle high but there customer service cant be beat. They will help you with anything and stay on the phone forever. I know from putting in an alarm that did four million different things and had about that many wires. But if your looking for good prices try www.smilephotovideo.com They are in NY and have great prices and ship fast but the people there are kinda rude but hey they have a lot of stuff with really good prices. Then you can order the harnesses from Crutchfield if you want.

I have Focal's up front. I did have some clearance problems. I put 6.5's in the front. I think most people but 5.25 in the front to avoid this problem. I had to hack up the interior of my car door panel and make a new speaker mount for the door. PITA!!! I changed the location of my tweeters to the side of my doors (kinda like where the civic has the tweeters). Tweets up in the front reflecting off the windows creates bad imaging. Again, more work, bondo, sanding, paint, gack.... I think MB Quart makes pretty shallow speakers. Tweeters are too bright for my tastes though. Any more questions feel free to email me. I've taken the interior of the CL apart one too many times.
