Clear Coat Going!

The clear coat on my 1997 2.2CL with Primrose Mist Metallic paint is going. I have kept the car garaged, and it sits in a parking lot during the day. The top surfaces of the car are starting to feel a little "gritty"...the bottom surfaces, like the lower door panels feel showroom smooth.

Anyone experience this problem? Am I looking at a new clear coat job? Any suggestions to correct, or slow down the degradation of the clear coat?

try maguire's "clear coat body scrub". i just did my car today...got rid of all the water spots and restored the smooth texture. it might help...and definitely cheaper than a new paint job!!

Well you can restore that smooth finish with Mothers 3 step process. I don't know the exact names of the products but the 1st one removes the wax, then cleans the clearcoat, and the third one reapplys the wax.

Also I highly recommend Prolong's Waterless Wash & Shine. Your car will look like a million bucks after putting this on your car.

Good luck

The "gritty" feel may be industrial fallout or raildust on the paint surface... not deteriorated clear coat paint. Removal is fairly simple using "detail clay" (Mothers/Meguires)

Acura paint sucks. My clear coats seems to have disappeared and it has always been garaged and washed (waxed, etc) alot but the paint doesnt feel to great. Not to mention everytime i drive it and find another chip.

Wow, I'm kinda shocked. How often were you waxing it?
