CL 2.2 Heating Problem

Hey,
Are any other CL 2.2 owners having problems where the heater stops blowing warm air after about 20 minutes of driving?
In cold weather, the heater initially work just fine, but after ~20 minutes the interior keeps getting colder and colder. The fan is running, but the climate control doesn't maintain the setting (69%). If I up the temp to say 72%, I get heat again for 10 minutes, then it stops blowing warm air.
I'm the original owner and complained to the dealer 3 times about this, but was told that Acura CL's have been known to have this problem. Hmmm, didn't see anything in this forum on this.

HELP winter is coming!!

mine does that. 69 isnt that warm to begin with and after the temp in the car hits 69 and up, it automatically brings it back down. i assume u are using hte auto button? if u want heat, put it to 80 and up

The coolant is full, and 69 is warm enough for me.
The "AUTO" position I assume should maintain a temp of ~69 (or whatever temp is set) if it is working correctly. Just like other cars I have owned with climate control, or as in your home heating system. If I set the temp to 80, it heats the car up to 80 then stops supplying heat and the inside temperature keeps dropping.(no heat at all)
It sounds like other CL owners have this problem where the automatic climate control doesn’t maintain a constant temperature. What’s strange is it works OK with the Air Conditioning, it’s just the heating.

I have a 1997 Cl 3.0 and the climate contol is completely awol. I just bought this car and when I try to set the climate in either auto or manual control you never know what it will do.
sometimes when it's warm out, the car will blow hot air even with the temp setting on 60 degrees, or if it's cool, it will blow cool air no matter what you do. I sure would like some help in troubleshooting the problem

I have read my owners manual...duhh! and the controls are self explanatory, anyway. I examined the fuse interior fuse box after box posting my reply question
and found no faulty fuse but this morning when I started the car so as to warm it up and de-ice the windshield etc., the climate control seemed to be working ok as I drove to the grocery store and back. Maybe my fiddling with the fuses re-established a connection that was faulty. Will have to see wheter the problem is solved in the longer run of things.

Your climate control is functioning normally. Don't use AUTO, though because in my opinion it does no good in extreme conditions. The best thing to do when you're starting up and it's freezing cold is to switch your climate control where it's half window defogger and half lower and kick it up to 89. Your car will heat up a lot quicker and once it's up to a comfortable temp, then you can switch back to auto. Even then I would suggest keeping it at about 85 to 89 degrees because the system will decrease its output of heat once it senses the cabin temp is at the optimum level according to its sensory.

i do the same every morning, auto doesnt kick in all the way until you start driving. but if you put the front defrosters on it blows out the hot air on even 74 thru the vents

I'm probably going to screw myself by saying this, but my auto setting worked fine all last winter when I still lived in Pittsburgh where the outside temp was usually in the 20's and 30's. I pretty much only use the auto setting and it aways maintained the temp I had it set at.

Now it's gonna start messing up.

I never paid attention to that, when I get my CL back off my dad I'll see if mine does the same.

*EDIT* I misunderstood, mine does do the same thing.

This website is difficult to navigate, not intuitive! Anyway, I want to post a new message about my 1997 Accura 3.0 CL. I last posted about this problem back in 2005. My heating cooling system is still not functioning as it should by any means.
It cools ok, but rather too well, there's no regulating it at all, just colder and colder
no matter where you set the thermostat. Occasinally it will heat if it is very cold outside and when it does, it's like when it cools: there's no regulating it, just hotter and hotter. I haven't been able to find a trustworthy shop that will sort it out for me. I took it to one place with a good reputation and they just added more refrigerant. Other than the climate control, I have only had one other problem which was warped front rotors. I merely had them turned on the vehicle
and are fine now. I really love this car and am desperate to solve its climate control problem.

Who is it?

David, why don't you take it to Acura. I know they might charge you a little more, but no one is gonna know an Acura like the stealership is... Either that or find a really good import mechanic.

ontop of all that, turn on the recycle air circulation...that will warm up your cabin even quicker

You're right. Somebody makes one error and half of the members start piling up in the thread to harrass like they're going out of their minds. I have a 2.2CL and a 3.2CL S but you won't see me on here with 15,303,943 posts, knowing about every thread, every post, every comment, every knook and cranny of this site. If I fuck up and post something in a wrong thread or decide to revive an old thread, then so what? Is it costing anyone on this website a dime or inconveniencing their real lives outside of the internet? Hell no.

My suggestion to you is to go to a dealer and let them do a diagnostic. When they find the problem ask them what part is needed and how much it costs. Once they tell you, you can go to an aftermarket parts store, pick that part up for almost half the price and find a shop that specializes in Honda/Acura that will put the part in hassle free if you can't do it yourself.

i know its old but it seems so odd to me to see them to refer to 69 as warm lol! on a regular day around here if i set mine to 80 it blows cold air (as it should!) if i set my AC to 69 around some of my friends they would think i had a fever for turning the cold air too strong haha

In the summer I have my a/c set on 69 all summer, cuz that's the only number to have displayed on your climate control And it's just cool enough to be comftorable
