In my cigarette lighter when I push it in the element gets hot, however if I plug in my cell phone charger I cannot get any power. It seems that if the lighter element gets hot, then then it is getting power. I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if so what can I do to fix it?

I'm gonna throw this out into the wind, but I'm thinking the obvious answer is to check the phone charger in another car... crazy, i know....

 

this is a problem with tl's. There are a lot of posts in that forum. I cant remember if it was the first or second gens but I def remember seeing a lot about it. Don't know if it is the same problem that u have but hope it helps.

 

OR rotate the cell phone charger around and see if that works. There are some open areas in the lighter that the grounds from the cellphone charger may be in.

 

I just think that it is weird that the element works but nothing else. And I hate thinking about taking out the center console again

 

i have the same problem with an ipod adapter. just spin it around a little, c if that works

The lighter in my car come out when i pull out the lighter, wires and everything... still attached but it freakin comes out! pisses me off, the rotational thing only works so well until I hit a bump, then I just get even more frustrated, anyone know of any permanent fixes?

 

yea my cig lighter doesnt work i out in a new fuse and still no go. im mad cuz i wanna use my freakin radar ahhaa

I have to wedge 2 little cardboard strips to keep a good contact for my TomTom. Sounds ghetto but it's not like the cig lighter socket is broken, just not that great design. I MakKe It BeTtA!

 

Thats what i was going to suggest. Worked for me in the past.
