Changing Tranny oil and need help...

I need to know if there is one nut that needs to be removed in order for me to drain the tranny fluid on a 97 3.0 CL and exactly where it's located ?? Thanks....

I just did that the other day. The drain plug is on the very bottom of the tranny and lays horizontally (not bolted from below, but sideways). It is different color (bronze?) and if it is the same as on my '99 3.0 you can use a 1/4 inch socket wrench extension to remove it.

just make sure you use honda atf ...if ya didn't know anyway and it takes 3.1 quarts at a change out (according to factory manual) for complete flush (if ya were overhaulin tranny) 7.6 quarts

If you have an extractor pump. 49 bucks roughly (I borrow from friend) this is a extremely easy thing to do. You put the siphon tube in the tranny dip stick hole, and start pumping. when you run out of tranny fuild. (make sure the car is kinda leveled out). Then take a thin funnel and pour the new tranny oil in and replace the dip stick. There you are done.

is it better to have it drain from the bottom so in any lil metal shavings will come out along w/ the fluid?

Hmm normal wear would be subspended in the oil. If the metal wear would be heavier than the oil and would cause a problem, you probably have a bigger issue with ur tranny.

the drain plug has a magnet that attracts all the small metal pieces. i clean that off each time. kinda looks like graphite.

You should be able to drain only 3.1 qt at a time. I managed to drain only about 2.5 qt since I had my car on the ramps so it was not level.
I'll do a 2nd drain & fill tonight...

to get the most out of ur tranny move the shifter back and fourth between gears while the drain plug is out. (this opens all the hydraulic valves ull get about 1/2 qt more out.) do not start the car.

i really suggest a tranny cooler

Generally don't check the drain plug. I try to change the tranny fluid every year. I think acura recommends it at like 30k at heavy usage. But at every 30k i do take out the plug to make sure it is ok and check the seals.

Also, before you do that, make sure to take out the top bolt. Would suck if you drained the fluid and couldn't take out the bolt...then you'd have to use the dipstick.
