Can these subs handle this amp?

Hey everyone, well i need to know if two Alpine Type R 12's could handle a jbl 1200.1 amp @ 2ohms. Its rating 1200x1. and the subs are 300w rms, 1000 peak. How much wattage would the subs get? 600 rms each, rite? is that too much? thanks

get two 4ohm subs, and wire them parallel to the amp... you'll be running the amp at 2 ohms, and if the bp1200 is 1200 watts RMS at 2 ohms, you'll be putting 600 RMS to each sub.

Alpine, and most other big name brand subs are conservatively rated... The type R's can definatly handle that wattage...

Just make sure the gain is all the way down when you first initially hook it up.

I got an Alpine dual voice coil 12" type R running 1000 watt peaks only to the sub. If you're thinking about bumping 1200 watts...Thats way too much. My 1000 watts is too much as is.

watts don't mean anything.....i am running two subs paralelled at 2 ohms right now, its outputting about 75 watts. But its class a power so its very high current. My stereo stomps all over my buddies stuff..he brags about 1000 watts and shit. You can never have enough power(watts) you just have to know how to use it responsibly. Like not turning it up to full gain..so you don't set your speakers on fire. I have my sub amp set at a quarter of the way up. and its enough to rattle your fillings loose!

to answer your question klepto..yes thats going to work great..just make sure to hook the subs up paralell(hook both positives together and both negatives together then hook to the amp bridged.) to set your gain..turn your deck up 3/4 way up, and then set the gain right below the distortion point.

So let me get this straight...

You can never have enough of something that "doesn't mean anything?"

WTF are you smoking? Atleast make your argument logical.

ok dood...before you start rolling your eyes all over the place and making harsh comments, please understand that i meant having more power behind your equipment will result in a better sound. The only reason i used the word watts, is because thats the only term people understand.actually... why don't you have a look at this Link and maybe you will understand what i am talking about. btw...maybe YOU should be smoking something so you will chill out bro. :shakehd:

chill chill...

Klepto... go for it... I totally forgot that the Type-R's are DVC (Dual Voice Coil)... have you purchased the subs yet?? If not, make sure to get the dual 2 ohm versions.

To achieve a 2ohm total load with those 2 subs, you'll need to wire the coils of each sub in parallel... positive to positive and negative to negative... essentially making the two coils into one. Then wire the pair in series... positive of the amp to positive of ONE sub, negative of the same sub to the positive of the second sub then the negative of the second sub to the negative of the amp.

oh these are 1 ohm subs then...yeah sumkidwithacl is right..parallel the coils on each speaker, then wire them in series to the amp.

Assumption is the mother of all fuckups. Just tell it straight up like it is. No need to assume we're all stupid. Like I said before...Make sure your argument makes sense. Don't try to simplify things and used incorrect terms from what you meant.
