CAMS for H22A

Who has put in cams in their h22a's? If you have, which cams did you use? Crowers? or Skunk2? What stage? and what performance gains? how was the idle?

it depends if you are going with forced induction or na.
each company grinds a cam for each "stage" of performance

with the stage 1 cams you won't need new springs and retainers but you'll only get about 15-20hp
all other stages you'll need new head components to function but will give you gobs of more hp and torque

i'm personally looking for a deal on turbo cam's that are not reground

I did
I have skunk2 stage 2 cams with skunk2 dual valve springs, skunk2 titanium retainers and crower stainless steel valves.

I was going to order the crower stage 2 cams and I even placed an order with crower. Two weeks later a rep from crower called me to tell me that they were out of stock of h22 cams and that they will not be making anymore h22 cams ever again.

After talking with people on other forums about this it seems that crower ran out of blanks to make the cams and that they have decied to order more but it takes about 6 months for this order to get filled. After that it also seems like they will redisgning the h22 cams. I would not buy new cams without see some dyno test done first.

Also with the crower stage 2 cams (if you could find a store that had them in stock) if I were you I would still upgrade the valvetrain if I were you. The last thing you need is to drop a valve in your engine and blow it to hell.

i know you have alot of mods done to your car dcsquirm88, but how much whp did it give you when you put in the skunk2 stage 2 cams? How was the idle? I want my idle to remain as stock as possible, and gas mileage. My goal is to produce as much hp but yet maintain the luxury feel of the CL.

I forgot to say that my skunk2 cams do not have the stock idle. If you want you can get them with the stock idle but then the performance gains of the cams would not felt until your are at higher rpms. With the non stock idle cams the hp gain is through out the whole rpm band and therfore you will have the extra power right of the line.

Another thing about the skunk2 cams is that are alomt more expensive than the crower cams. You can get the crower cams used to sell for around $700 shipped but the skunk2's sell for around $1,000 shipped.

Another good alternative for cams would be JUN cams but they are even more expensive than the skunk2's.

Crower cams.. i get confused with the stages.. i think i have stage 3 turbo cams.. not sure tho.. crower told me i have to buy valve springs.. and i WILL have a lumpy idle.. and its meant for track purposes only.. so i'm guessing thats stage 3.. and stock valves.. i used to be all about building an engine to its limit.. well i dropped the 10k on that project and blew half of it to pieces.. and ended up sawing my h22a block in half.. so now i'm just concentrating on using stock pieces and getting the most out of them.. such as the valves.. i do need to replace my rods tho.. cuz i think they're going to buckle soon.. but anyways.. yah crower

how rough is the idle dcsquirm? I mean does it feel like a freaking v8 camero? I of course would prefer torque gain and all around power band gain compared to just high end... but it kinda deepends on how bad the idle is. I guess its all give and take.
