Cali motor swap laws...

Attarco site faqs links to the ca motor swap laws - which say something like "swap is legal if functionally identical" and later "must be same year or newer" ... Going to check out an f22a tomorrow, is that identical enough or do I have to also somehow find a 97? They came 94-97 how will I know? And will I have to go to a referee when I go to smog? Do those guys check motor vins?

you should be fine with a F22a. i would look for a F23 just in case if you are really self-cautious.

You should be ok with the f23. Just curious, why the swap?

spoke to the ref and he said f22b would be a direct replacement, no need to reffing
f23 would have to take ecu, all sensors, manifolds, fuel tank sensor, etc and get ref'd

bought the attarco f22b (~50k miles) for 408 dropped off

swapping to skip dealing with blown head gasket for $900, its been overheating

wow guys thanks for misleading the noob..

make sure the engine is from a 97 + or newer or else life will suck. i know the H22 motors have the year stamp on them.. im not too sure about the f22b's. SO check the VINs

is Cali the only nazi smog state where i can't put OBD1 motor in my OBD2 car?

because if I can't get it to pass smog I'm looking at selling it ... providing I get it to start (buying a new dizzy today). Checking out '02 MDX tourings and fapfapfapping

nah once I got it in and couldn't start it i did some research and it doesn't have the CPS/CKF because it's a damn obd1 Think i'm past my 30days return window now and I gotta have a car to drive I'm like 4 weeks into this swap.

so possible options:
1) sell out of state once running
2) pull, sell motor, buy other motor, install & then sell (BOOOOO) this will involve another month in my dad's garage and i'll have bought something new

i read shit like they'll get an error plugging the obd2 reader in, and i can't go backwards in OBD versions ... ref told me the jdm f22b was a direct replacement and I would have no problems, not have to get ref'd even, this is a lot of work and $$ for possibly crap outcome.

that's the CL one. You must want pics of the one that came with the motor - i'll snap tomorrow. 7 wires and a square plug.

and the swap didnt come with an ecu so i just have whatever the stock 5spd CL one is.

ok thats why ur car wont work.. u need to get an OBD 1 ECU.. from the accord prefferably.. or hit up phearable.net and they can make a P28 or P06 for ur specific setup..

this is the jdm dizzy that came with the motor

having it towed to my local honda shop they'll do a $98 diagnostic and see what they think. said they may swap oil pumps from the us to the jdm to make it obd2 (would this solve the incompatability issue? the block is the only thing obd1 at this point?
