CAI question

I am thinking about buying a aem cai v2 for my 3.0 cl 99'. I just just wondering though, is it the filter that is respobsible for the performance increase?? what if i buy a cheaper cold air intake and replace the filter with a K&N one?? will i see the same kind of sound and increase in performance or am i better off spending the extra money and just getting the V2??

thanks

ALL THE DYNO RESULTS I HAV SEEN SHOW THAT AEM PERFORMS BETTER THAN its competitors..it has to do w/ the mandrel bends the filter used and the pipeing used..your better off going w/ the V2 its proven

yea but keep in mind that you will only see about a 3 whp gain from a v2 compared to a regular aem intake.

If you are looking to get the most possible horsepower out of your intake, get the V2. If you are on a budget and are more interested in sound than power, I'd suggest the cheap intake with K&N filter. Decide what you want to do with your car then buy whatever intake suits your interests. You won't be dissappointed with the V2, or at least I wasn't.

I agree, My V2 sounds like the s#*t, it was well worth the extra money, plus it will have better value than the others if you ever want to sell it.

well, i am looking for performance, but i would probably prefer sound first, which would sound nicer. I mean if i can spend a bit less and still get a nice sound, im fine with that. Also, i did a search and was looking at some install pics for the aem v2 or other cold air intakes and it looked pretty hard. Exactly how much work and knowledge do i need to install this thing?? and if anybody has pics of installation and process of it, i'd really appreciate it, thanks

Since V2 uses a dual-spiral airflow intake design, you will get a humming noise. Keep that in mind.

really hard? All intake installations are soo easy...u just hav to take out the existing air box and tube and put in the v2 pipe then from underneath put on the filter..its pretty self explanitory if u pop your hood and take a look

Damn that humming!! Its the most annoying thing in the world!! Now im really not getting a v2 (i act like i can afford it). Just get a drop in K &N filter.
THe only hard thing about isntalling a Cold Air, is takin off the Bumper and resonator. Thats can bee a beech to do if ur not familiar.

go under the splashguard... for that you'd probably have to lift the car a little though.

my boy has the injen cai in his evolution o-z rally edi IT SOUNDS LIKE SHT
we both popped out hoods and faced eachother to hav a real idea of what each sounds like at high rpm's ...the aem cai by far has a better sound(he even thought so)WHY EVEN BOTHER W/ ANY OTHER BRAND(and if u dont hav the extra 50-70$ or whatever it is...keep saving your lunch money..j/k)

Exactly. You have to remove it a little, with the car lifted, and just pop in the filter. Pretty simple.

Damn no need to PMS on me. Its an extra pain in the ass thats all im sayin. For my old civic, and my buddies 2001 accord we had to take off the bumper and resonator. It wasnt fun. For a CAI thats what u need to do , for a V2 u can prolly get away with not taking the resonator off

isn't the aem filter they give you better than a k&n filter?? why would you replace it?

If you get an AEM cai, I would keep the filter it comes with. You get a cheap ebay intake, upgrade to the K&N. It wouldnt make sense to swap the AEM for the K&N if you have the AEM intake. My OBX came with and OBX filter and thats what I put on.
