CAI - Does it matter if it is old or new?
CAI - Does it matter if it is old or new?
I have read a whole lot of conflicting things about CAIs on the board... and I had a couple of questions, I guess specifically for my vehicle.
There's someone on the board selling a used Iceman, so I could go with that or I could get an AEM v2...
Is there any difference in performance between used vs new?
I've heard that AEM is better than Iceman, but then again some people say they are both the same pretty much.
Also, does Iceman have something like AEM's bypass, or not? It is really wet here & the roads are full of potholes, and I don't need to mess up my engine because some water got in it...
Thanks All!!

CAI's
Well, most of the CAI's performance depend on what air filters they use. K&N filters tend to be the filter of choice. New or used CAI's are pretty much the same, it just depends on how clean the Air Filter is that they give you with the used one. Personally as long as the CAI tube isn't damaged in any way, I would just buy a K&N filter for it and then the CAI would be just as good as a new one. If your going to run your CAI like I did by taking out the stock air box and running the tube to the back of the wheel well, you shouldn't have a problem with water. As long as you cover the wheel well back with that plastic piece, water shouldn't really get into the intake if you put everything back right. I don't use a bypass valve on my cold air, and we have gotten a lot of rain and my shit is just as smooth in the rain. Hope this helps a little.

I beg to differ. In this case, and maybe some other cases also the intake piping is larger at one end and gets smaller toward the connection to the throttle body on the aem v2. Ive seen a dyno chart in a magazine for this intake on a honda civic and it showed better gains than the regular aem intake. Most of the whole power band had more torque and H.P. The iceman intake is a decent intake, but has plastic tubing and looks a little cheaper.
