A/C question

I just start noticing the hissing noise when the AC is turn on doesn't go away. It used to hiss for a few minutes and than turned off. I think something is wrong w/ the AC system. will low frion make it hiss all the time? if i keep the AC on all the time, will it damage the AC?

thanks guys

OK, i am actually an AC guy, my day job. If you were low on freon, the air would not be coming out as cold as it used to come out, you could need a recharge if that is your problem. The hissing would only be if you had a leak in the tubing, but it would be a very large and out of place leak. So, if freon is too low, the compressor will just shut off, and you wil get no cold air at all. That isnt your problem. Your problem is probably something to do with a fan motor/blade. You might have also lost a vacum.
