bypass valve
#2
When you put a bypass valve on it makes your cold air intake quiet and sound like shit, also it makes it suck in hotter air. It is meant for protecting your engine from the very unlikely chance of hydrolocking. If your filter gets submerged with water if you drive through on of those hurricane floods or if you go fishing in your car in a lake then it opens up and stop the water from going into your engine. I had it on my intake took it off a month later its jus sitting in my garage now its really a waste. I mean my car is pretty low and i live in florida and it rains almost everyday and never have problem...

Actually they hooked up a cai w/bypass and w/out to an b18 in a civic on import tuner magazine (may 03 i believe) when they were testing different setups between injen aem iceman etc.. And in the results table they showed that the cubic volume of intake air and temperature were practically identical for the aem cai w/bypass and w/out. In volume the injen was slightly higher, and the short rams all had air temps of avg. 20 degrees higher than all the cai's across the board.
