Brake lights out. Short?

Have a 99 2.3CL. My brake lamp light went on on my dash, so I went back a checked it out. Sure enough both middle brake lamp and driver's-side brake light were out. Checked bulbs - middle brake lamp bulb was indeed burned out, while driver's brake bulb was fine. Replaced middle brake lamp bulb, and still nothing. Took bulb back out to check if it had burned out, it's fine. I check the fuse, it's fine, too. Since both bulbs are not working, I think this narrows it down to a short. Does this sound right? Any ideas on how hard this will be to fix? Any ideas where I can find a schematic of the wiring of the car? Any help would be appreciated, I have to pass safety inspection in next two weeks. Thnx.

My tail light on the rear was busted. It was a bulb that somehow shorted out and melted the plastic in the socket. It melted it bad enough that the two + and - was touching. That caused the short. I just had to replace the socket.
