brake leak somewhere...

This is something you guys might be able to help me with. My brake light came on the other day while driving. No big deal, it’s done it before. So I fill the reservoir and life is good. But then it came back on a few days later. Never done that (except for when I had a leak at one of my rear calipers a few years ago, where the brake cable went into the caliper). I looked at all my wheels and there is not an obvious leak like last time. I’m thinking maybe my master is leaking but it’s hard to tell since it all dirty and gunked up from filling and spilling. Should I fill it and hit it up with some engine cleaner? I’m thinking then it will be more obvious to see a leak. How hard is it to swap out a master cylinder? Looks like just a few bolts / connections (but then bleeding I’m sure)…

Thanks!

bleeding the system is more time consuming that the actual replacement of the master cylinder. make sure you have a buddy help you.

ok,, I've read some procedures on brake bleeding. Looks like it's the same as a moto... pump the brake, hold it down, crack the bleeder on the caliper, close, release the brake. Just start with the wheel furthest away and end with the wheel closest to the master... did I miss anything? I have to clean the master off tonight so I can tell is it is leaking...

BTW J30, how many miles did you get from your original master? I’m right under 200K now.
