Question Body help..Pain..sandpaper..polish..

Hello.
I would like to know that i just did a finishing paint on the car (its metallic paint)..then used 1000grid sand paper to smoothen the paint..then i did 3 coat of clear..now id like to know should i do the sanding again with 1000grid sand paper or should i apply the rubbing polish ( compound polish ) directly onto the body to make it even? if it makes sense?

If im not doing it right.. could someone guide me please?thanks.

If you sprayed it already with clear and its dried, then take 2000 grit paper and wetsand the clear. Not 1000 as it will leave more and deeper scratches that you might not get out easily. Now if you were really anal, you could have sprayed and sanded in between coats of clear which would make it even more amazing but thats just too much work. Oh and dont go crazy with it. If you sand too much you run into the problem if hitting the paint. If you do that, well then good luck as now you have to respray either that panel, or if you are good then you can match the clear's

Once you did a section get compound and polish it to a shine. This should make it look like glass..

Maybe wait and see how much orange peel you get after the clear is done. I made the mistake of having the gun too far away from the car and the paint was being sprayed too dry. I never bothered sanding the basecoat, I found out what I was using only gets orange peel if too much is put on (the stuff was $110 a pint though) I used 1500 and 2000 to smooth out the clear, and wet sanding.

My hood and front bumper cover need paint but I can't be bothered right now..
