black smoke?

whassup fellas, quick question. The other night me and my boys were doin some highway runs, and they commented that when in front of them and i downshifted, black smoke came outta my muffler. Since my 02 sensor is out, i was wondering if that could be the cause of my foul emmisions. any ideas? i plan to change my sensor soon, being that its throwin a check engine code now, and the tips of my magnaflow are black with soot/carbon or whatever that is

With the failed O2 sensor, your engine is not completely burning the fuel. Your ECU is compensating with a rich mixture and it is probably not advancing the timing enough to burn all the fuel. Replace the sensor and reset the ECU, you will probably be fine... Oh, do it soon though, or your CAT will get gummed up with varninsh from the unburned fuel building up. If you are seing on your tips, it is worse inside the CAT.

When I get on it hard and bang gears I get alot of black smoke, so I'm told. I also notice alot of deposit on my muffler. I believe my O2 sensor is fine though. No warning lights on my dash are light up. I have a OBX header, 22" resonator and a magnaflow muffler.
