Yo, best is an objectice opinion that is going to be specific for each person, not necessarily best for you. Depends on the type of music you listen to, do you want nice tight bass or big booming bass depends on the enclosure. Also you must look at things like the the effeciency of the speaker. A sub that is 89 dB is fairly effecient for a sub, but that is only if your enclosure meets the thistle specs which specify how much air volume the speaker need. If you spend some time picking the right combination of products you can make an excellent system, the question really is how much do you want to spend?

for something a little cheaper, i would say JL 12w0...
easy to power, and get a nice low and accurate sound out of them...

Nah, the W3s are nice subs for the $$ too.

red99cl2.3, if you have $400 to spend on the subs, here's what I would look at (in NO specific order):
-JL W6s
-Crossfire BMF
-Kicker Solobaric
-Rockford Power (idk the model now, used to be HX2, nows it's just like DVC subs...??)

If you have $400 to spend on all of it (subs, amp, box, wires), get the Infinity Basslink like suggested above.

JL W0's. I'm sure you can find 2 used 12" for around $100.

sry to hijack the thread but... is it ok to test a sub without an enclosure for functionality? would it be bad for the sub?

test to see if it works=yes, Test for max volume=NO.

Unless it is a sub that works with no enclosure.

Man I work in the car audio at Circuit City. Personally, I am going with two Infinity Kapper Perfect Single voice coils, but as far as best bang for the buck,...... ALPINE TYPE R! Dual voice coil, clean as hell man! About $149 a piece and by far worth every penny! I had two 12" type r's and it was the best thing I ever had! Used the alpine MRDM500 aswell... WHOAH THEY ARE AWESOME!!

I am getting the Infinity's because I am upgrading my amp (1,500 RMS at 1 OHM!!!!!) and need single voice coil to drop the ohm load!

GET TYPE R, TRUST ME

I have 2 15" JL W0 and only one hooked up and it beats up...both of them together is almost to much. I am sure a W3 or W6 would sound a lot better but why pay so much???

i like the Kicker Solobaric..you can make one of these 12's hit as hard as 2 JL's(with the right amp ofcourse) and they only need .88 cu ft of air space, so you dont give up your whole trunk for a box...not to mention the fact that they look cool as fuk....just my .02

Polk Momo 12"....tight, clean bass. excellent for rock, decent for rap. Just make sure that you have an amp that is at least 500 RMS.
