BAMM! "Check Engine"

Hey guys. Dumb question. My CL usually sits in the garage. My Civic puts on the miles. But today my girlfriend drove it to go "tanning". She said that the Check Engine light game on. She doesn't know when or where. Figures... My Civic has a separate plug to pull codes. On the '99 3.0CL, what is the trick to jump 2 pins to pull codes from the OBD diag. plug?
The car is almost at 90k miles. Anyone else pop a check engine light at this point?
Someone please help me before I kill the girlfriend..!!
"Dunno wha-happen."

OMG, I was driving an FX35 as a rental and I thought I was in the + - manual mode. I accelerated and tried to upshift, threw it in neutral, felt the car slow while the tach flew to 6,500 RPM (redline is 6,200), and slammed it back into drive. I was so freaked out, I thought I was gonna break the car . I did that another time driving a rental and the engine shut off. I was so scared that the engine would never start again, but it did.

...and yes, shinilight gave good advise.

It's cool son. Fun is all good until somebody gets their eye poked out. I still wanna know how to "Self Diagnose" with the OBD2 plug. Using a jumper betwix two pins.
Anyone?

Thanks for the tip. Are you sure that OBDII has this blue plug? I know OBDI Honda's do. Anywho... I'll check it out. Thanks again. I'll let you know how it goes.

-shineynitelite. I appreciate your info. But I work with car electronics all day. Knowing how to do it myself is very valuable.

It pops Engine Code 12. Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve Low Lift/High Voltage.
Whatever that means. I reckon the EGR valve is bad. Great! I can feel my wallet getting emptier by the second.

Thanks again for the help with that. Honestly only took about 30 seconds to find the plug and pull the codes.

the EGR should be covered by the emissions warranty. which means they will replace it for free. If they don't for some reason, its SUPER easy to clean out.

Cleaned out the EGR. Reset the ECU.
Hee. Hee. No Check Engine Light!!

Yeah... And stay off BITCH!!

I snapped at my girlfriend though when she was all up in my "car fixing" business. Asking questions and all. Like she understands anything I'm doing.
Anybody have advice on fixing that one?

yea dude, get her involved. I only wish my hoe was interested in doin car stuff with me.

If she's curious, do it together, answer her questions, and show her how to do stuff. That would be great, and there would be SO much less bitching if the girl would understand.
