Ball joint question-need help fast

Hey guys... so I'm putting on my adjustable ball joints right now. What I've figured out is that it doesn't look like the damn stock ball joint comes out of the control arm. I've got pictures coming but... I need these on STAT! I have to leave in a few hours to drive relatively far... I don't want my tires wearing down anymore

I have the Ingalls adjustable ball joints FYI.

So my question is... How does the ball joint get out of the control arm?

That can be a bitch, it's easy if you have the right tools. The best way if you don't have a ball joint puller (not the fork tool, but a machine that uses compressed air) try cutting through the rubber material towards the outside, or drill through the center to break the metal component free from the dense rubber. If you can't do that, since you have the control arm off of the car.........burn that shit! Seriously!

Would advanced auto have a ball joint puller or w/e... I mean cuz I don't really want to burn it out because I really do need to drive somewhere today and if I fuck it up... yea.

What exactly do you mean drill the center of it?

Call around, someone might have a balljoint remover-make sure it's not the fork tool. If you drill through the top center of the ball joint it would help separate the metal nut from the rubber.

Okay, look at your last two pictures in this post. In pic#3 that is the top of the ball joint, right? Within that black rubber is a small metal ball joint. It doesn't seem like rubber because it is so dense, right? It's also rubber on the other side of the joint (pic#2). You should be able to cut away the rubber enough to give the joint enough give to pull it out. You can also used a C-clamp to force the sucker out. Or if you don't understand how to do that, call the auto parts store and tell you're trying to separate a single ball joint from the upper control arm, but it's not the ball joint spreader that you need.

oh boy, i had the same issue. You need the Honda/Acura balljoin press. It's a specialty tool, retails for about 120$. Be aware that the top of your camber kit may bang your shock towers if you're low.

big hammer to knock out. big hammer to knock in. Use a piece of plywood or 2x4 to absorb the impact so you dont damage the thread. i've done this many many many times. works like a charm. No $120 tool necessary
A word of advice. Honda makes 2 controll arms. two seperate diameters. make sure you have the right one before removing that ball joint.

Well I figured it out guys... Once I realized that it was definitely able to come out, I just pretty much used a C-clamp and got it out... the adjustable Ingalls one is easier- it doesn't need to be pressed in.

I appreciate it. When I looked at the DIY it was for the other camber kit- not the adjustable ball joints. I should've made a DIY but like I said, I was in a hurry.

And yea, when I tried to get an alignment yesterday they couldn't get my car on the machine/lift because it was so low.
