AUX Input

Do you need to get a AUX input adapter to hook up an Ipod to the Bose System, or can you just get the AUX cord that already has a headphone jack on the end of it?

Yes, please search because there are several options. The best one I have found is the NEO Car Audio interface. It allows both iPod control AND aux input to be used at the same time.

No, it doesn't work just as good but you're right it shouldn't cost as much as it does. The ones that connect to the Dock port charge and sound better because it's a digital connection. A good AUX adapter does sound very good though.

Haha, you gotta hear mine then. It sounds amazing compared to the CD player! It literaly sounds like I have a mini sub somewhere and the highs are so clear. It's what you would expect from BOSE. I don't think the extra $160 would make it sound that much better..
Btw, digital is only by use via coaxial or fiberoptics. That's a 3.5mm headphone jack and iPod connector..

Yes, it does sound better than the CD player. I have one.

Are you saying a 3.5 MM jack is digital?

Sorry, that came out kinda assholeish. I'm not trying to prove you wrong or anything but I don't think that's digital. Dosen't say anywhere on the site that it's digital either.
and like I said, I don't think it could sound any better. Just ask Carson about how good it sounds. I had to pop my trunk to prove there was no sub. The highs crystal clear too. If it really dose sound better than the ebay adapter then that's insane.

It will all depend on the quality of your components. If you have high end subs, tweeters, etc, then it should sound better. You probably wouldn't hear the difference with the stock Blose system.

FWIW, I love my aux connector. I don't care if my car has a quality sound system anyway but it does sound damn good. Plus I can use it to listen to my Sirius unit or anyone else's MP3 player. That's why I went with one rather than an iPod only dock connector.

That's the thing, I just have the stock Bose premium system.

I've never used a PIE adapter, so I can't comment on it. I wanted a lot more than just a basic aux jack hookup.

The NEO plugs into the radio's CDC port then communicates with the radio, and sends audio via the iPod's accessory port. It allows song control using the radio seek/skip controls and steering wheel skip button... which I use constantly. You can select different playlists via the 1-6 preset buttons on the radio if you want as well. It locks the iPod's volume control to the standard output level and sounds pretty damn good with the Bose system.

It also charges the iPod whenever the car is on and automatically pauses/powers it down when you turn the radio off. I ran the cable into my armrest, and I rarely take the iPod out.. only for occasional syncing. The NEO also resumes the track and song position when you return just like the CD player does.

It's a very no-fuss interface that I was well worth the $200 I paid for it. I wanted something worry-free that I wouldn't have to string cables around for audio and charging, pause every time I got out, bring out to change a song, adjust the volume and in general, create more distraction while driving.

I thought about getting an aftermarket head unit, but I've just never liked the way they look. I would like the additional features and the one you have sounds really cool. But I just cannot stand the way the face always seems to stick out and how aftermarket stereos always have a million buttons in orange or bright blue. Plus, they never work with steering wheel controls nor dim down when you turn on the lights. It seems like small stuff, but drives me nuts.

Examples:

For real.... And it's not just $200, it's $200 plus shipping. That's crazy just for the ability to charge the phone and use steering wheel controls that I don't even have. What about incoming call functionality?

i'm glad i got a new head unit instead. So many more functions and since i'm still a kid, the blue and red lights don't bother me. Plus with my new speakers i don't really think i need a sub.
