anyone (scca) autocross their first gen/????
Hey guys, heres the story. Last season i ran my first autocross in a 1969 camaro convertible. Needless to say i was hooked. Im going to race my 98 3.0 premium this next season and i was wondering how any of you have done. If you havent raced, any suggestions on wheel diameter, suspension settings (camber, springs, shocks.) would be greatly appreciated. My roomate has a built turbo integra gsr that he races. He just bought a digital camcorder so i will be posting videos after my first race. Another thing i was wondering is what class should i run it???

Second to tires, I would recommend suspension mods first. A set of stiffer springs and shocks to match are a must. I've autoxed my stock CL and it's quite painful feeling the body keel over and the tread getting torn off the front tires.
A bigger rear swaybar really helps with understeer management. Suspension Techniques seems to sell the front with the rear bar, but I only run the rear bar on my 2.2 and it's just on the verge of being throttle steerable.
All these mods keep you in STS. IMO, it's not worth running in HS because the car just really isn't at home autoxing the way it's setup from the factory.
The biggest difference you can make with the car is a set of Falken Azenises. They're the hot tire to run in STS because they're so close to being an R compound tire.

im still running the stock sways right now. i plan to get some this season.
i reccomend you start out with no mods and then move up. reason being that you will better learn the handling charachteristics of your car.
you dont have to be a member, but you do have to register early for most of the races.

hey CLUofI in my region, you just have to show up at like 8 o clock and pay like 25-30 dollars. You dont have to be a member, but if you are a member of SCCA you get a free subscription to sportscar magazine and like 5 dollars off your entry fee, go once and you will be hooked for life, even if you dont drive. Most fun ive ever had. And i did it in a fast straight line car that shouldnt have any business turning in either direction. (leafsprings and almost 4000 lbs. with big sidewall tires isnt good.) Good luck if you go and let me know how you did. Check this link out. http://www.dmvrscca.org/solo2.htm that is the des moines region scca web site. Track location and schedules. Good Deal??

Yeah, that's about how much we pay in the NYC region. I quit running with SCCA and I'm now doing NASA events. It's $30 members/$40 nonmembers and you're guaranteed at least 8 high speed runs.
I got my S/T sways from www.summitracing.com. Just look for the 94-97 Accord platform. And if anybody wants my front S/T swaybar, it's been sitting under my bed for a while, just pay me for shipping and like $20 and you can have it, it's still brand new.

AtlCl ran his 2.3...there are some funny stories, but he did pretty good considering. I'll have to look for some pics. There isn't an SCCA event in Atlanta coming up soon, I love going out to watch them, fun to check out nice cars and see if their owners can really drive them

I really don't know if the clearances are different since it's right under the motor. Does Suspension Techniques have a different part number for the V6 Accord? I'd check but I gotta run to work now.

I'll buy the front from you ridinlow, shoot me a pm.
I did run my 2.3 with shocks. springs, and 17s w/ kumho's. The problem that I did not like with the Cl for an autox is that you have to downshift into 1st at high revs, but 1st is so short that you really can't stay in it long and the transmission just does not like downshifting into first, you have to really jam it in there which just does not feel good for the car. It was fun to do though. Even with the shocks at stiffest and the pro kit I managed to bottom out one time.
