Anyone with remote start...

I got a DEI alarm installed and the installer said that even with the bypass module, you'd still need a chipped key to start the car. Well I took it home and tried to start it with a non-chipped key and it started right up. Is there a trick to how this works? Is there a length of time that has to pass so that it won't accept a non-chipped key?

Instead of the 555U, he used a universal 556R. Could this be the problem? Should I take it back and have him fix it?

People who I talk to said that you'd still need a chipped key when not using remote start. But now my car is easier to steel with this alarm cause you can use any key. Shouldn't the signal from the bypass module be temporarily sent when remote starting and not work otherwise?

i dont know shit bout electronics but i know enough about the chipped key and stuff. what i did is cut my spare key and have the chip tapped around the key lock cylinder so that'll save me from buying that bypass thingy majiggy. hope that helped. auto start rocks man.

The point is to not have that feature disabled. I feel like now my car is more vulnerable.

But it does rock! It's so nice to be able to start my car from my house. I don't think I can ever do with out it.

I want this, but i have a stick.

Its a pain in the arse to fine someone who will hook it up!

There has to be a less ghetto than the above post way to be able to not completely disable the chip in the key.

Is there a way to save the code from the key into the alarm system so it temporarily sends the code to the igntion lock?

its probably wired to a constant power, i guess you could wire it to your alarm power, i know it can give a pulse before starting, like to bypass the stock alarm, you could hook that up to a relay and hook that up to the batt, that should only turn it on when it starts the car

Does it work? Yes. Does it work how it's supposed to? No. If I pay a lot of money to have something done, I want it done right. If this is in fact how it's supposed to work, then I'll be fine with it.

You are quoting the movie right?

You can, but only some of the older Cliffords were actually designed for it. There's a liability issue with RS on a MT so most reputable shops won't do it.

I have it hooked up to my defroster too. Makes me wish I had a 3.0 even more so I could hook up the seat warmers and side mirror defroster.

sorry to bust your ass, but this is noway possible.

and for being able to use a unchipped key with the bypass module, its because your installer skipped the keysense tap and just hooked it up to a contant ground, the right way is to use a negitive output when the remote starter is activated.

theives arent gonna know that your car is stealable so they wont bother or take that chance to try and steal it, maybe the shop that installed it did it purposly and sold your info to crooks.

Thank you SO much BTW! This one post has answered all my questions. I just called the installer and he's gonna redo it. You deserve a million rep points for that one. I can't thank you enough. Hope he does it right this time.
