Anyone had to replace a wheel bearing?

My car makes a loud click/pop occasionally when I go into reverse or around a turn. It's really been bugging me lately and me and some friends have checked everything but haven't been able to find the problem. I was on the supra forum and some guy gave the same problems I had and tracked it down to the wheel bearing So i'm thinking that's what my problem is but I haven't checked yet. Does anyone know how to check? Has anyone replaced one? What parts do I need and what should I expect to pay?

It's not your CV joint? I drove an Accord once while it had a bad wheel bearing. It made more of a humming sound while I was driving it, nothing popped or clicked. I don't remember how much it cost to replace though.

How do you know if the cv joint is messed up? My front left shock sounds like it smacks something at low speeds over bumps or when braking or accelerating sharply. It's either a bad shock or something else.

ps. sorry to whore ghander.

Bad CV joints definitely make a clicking sound when cornering.

I saw several wheel bearings on eBay this week (I think for the 2.2/2.3), but the seller may be a good resource for the 3.0 (at a good price).

Here's another source/pics :http://www.acuraautomotiveparts.net/...ESHAFT+%282%29

it could be somthing in your trans.... my car was making the same noises last week and the i got my new tranny yesterday and the noise is gone... i asked the guy at acura that worked on my car and he said it was the main bearing in the trans making the noise...

My CL used to make that noise... its like a rather loud clicky type noise when you go from reverse to forward (or vice-versa) or if you accelerate hard from a stop. Acura assured me that it was nothing bad... its probably just the bearings in the CV joints switching direction. You know when your CV shafts are bad, you'll hear them making a continous clicking noise at low speed, sharp corners... like in a parking lot.

i get a loud pop when i go up ramps and driveway fast usually a right turn in a gas station or something. It comes from my left rear wheel. I have no idea what it is. Im thinking its my spring poping into or out of place. I dunno. ideas?

Wheels bearings are not that hard from what i remember but bearings can be worn when u hear a humming or scraping sound when u accellerate. I dunno about the click/poping noise besides CV joints. If u say the joints are ok then i dunno. Mine comes from the rear. No joints there....

The same thing happen to me....At first I changed all the bushings and replaced them with the polyurethane busings. The sound was still there.I then changed upper and lower ball joints and I was still hearing that noise, at this point I wanted to blow my car up!!!Finally it was the wheel bearing that went bad so you may want to check that out....Its a bitch to remove from the wheel hub,you need a machinist to remove it.GOOD LUCK!!!

Unfortunately you need to take the wheel out completly and all the links, rotor, caliper, etc. Then from there look at the bearing and it should be cracked or chipped. Let me just say that it's going to be a bitch to remove all that shit. GOOD LUCK!!!

an easy way to tell if a wheel bearing is bad, grab the top of the tire and push and pull on it hard... if there seems to be some free-play or your hear a knocking sound, the bearings are bad. There shouldnt be any free play if the bearing is good.

After I got my springs on one of the pins that holds a bolt on broke. I guess I didn't get it in right. It made a loud pop when I turned all the way to the left. I took it to the dealer and it just took them a minute to fix it. I thought it was a CV joint.

Does POP sound like something smacks something else? Cause I've had that ever since my springs were installed. Kinda learned to live with it now.

it sounds like something is breaking. Like "clunk!" just like a spring would sound when it snaps into place or something.

Would the bearing be covered by an extended warranty?

Unlikely a wheel bearing. That's a very large bearing pressed into the knuckle. Did you hit something?

damn - I could have sworn I'd posted a reply on here already but I don't see it....

just had BOTH front wheel bearing replaced by Acura last week. The thing had been humming ever since I bought it in Feb. Acura replaced both under extended warranty.

This didn't generate any popping/clunking noises - just a loud hum/roar. It's so quiet now I actually feel like I'm in a luxo-coupe.

However, I do have a clunking noise that is caused by a bent exhaust bracket. During tight left turns over an uneven surface, it clunks against the floorboard.

How much would it be to replace both front wheel bearings at the dealer? And I assume it has to be pressed out if you were to do it yourself?
